1952 May See the Erid
Of World War II's
Dread 'Hard Core' Cases

Moses W. Beckelman, director
general of the Joint Distribution
Committee's overseas operations,
predicted that the end of 1951
may see the solution of the most
difficult problem facing Europe's
DP Jews following World War
II—the future of the so-called
"hard-cores."
He reported that hundreds of
aged, ill and handicapped DPs,
whose emigration had been de-
layed for years by lack of facili-
ties in Israel, are already in Is-
rael or are scheduled to leave
for the Holy Land by the end of
the year.
Their care in the Jewish state,
Beckelman indicated, is being
-provided by JDC's M a l b e n,
through its special welfare pro-
gram on behalf of handicapped
newcomers, in old age homes,
TB sanitaria, hospitals and oth-
er institutions in Israel.
