MR. AND MRS. JONAS KEYWELL
This Saturday night, at a dinner at the Mayfair on Dexter,

Nowogrodek, Russia, in 1901. Both were born there 68 years ago.
They came to the .United States in 1902—a year after their
marriage—and have lived in Detroit for 39 years. They reside at
2205 W. Euclid.
They have five sons and five daughters, 16 grandchildren and
one great-grandchild. All were born in this country except their
eldest son, Ben, who was 10 weeks old upon his arrival here.

Mr. Keywell is treasurer. He is especially happy to have a share
in community affairs through this club and in handling charity
funds and gifts for the Community Chest, Allied Jewish Campaign
and other causes.
National AZA Pledges
$5,000 to Israel Youth
Dedicate Detroit Group's
Unit in Children's Village
- URBANA, Ill. — A pledge to
raise $5,000 this year to furnish
a room in the Bnai Brith Chil-
dren's Home in Israel was made
by the delegates to the 28th an-
nual national convention of
Aleph Zadik Aleph, the Bnai
Brith youth agency for high
school boys.
The young men also voted to
intensify their program of bond
sales, salvage drives and other
community services. The con-
vention adopted a national dis-
cussion program which will be
inaugurated this year.
Defense mobilization work-
shops heard representatives of
the armed forces, Treasury De-
partment, Red Cross, and Bnai
Brith Anti-Defamation League
as consultants to discussions on
activity in these fields.
The 250 delegates, represent-
ing 11,000 members in the U.S.,
Canada a n d Mexico, heard
Richard E. Gutstadt, executive
vice chairman of the Anti-Defa-
mation League, say that the
mobilization of Jewish youth
"carries with it a responsibility
in excess of that carried by
youth generally."
Richard Segal, of Phoenix,
won the national oratory con-
test on the theme, "Not So Wild
A Dream." Bernard Papin and
Stanley Levin, of Kansas City,
won the national debate contest
on the subject, "Resolved, that
synagogues become centers of
Jewish life." All seven districts
in the country were represented
in each contest.
Peter K. Rosedale, of Cran-
ston, R.I., was elected national
president.
News was received this week,
in a cablegram from Israel, of
the laying of the cornerstone of
the Detroit Bilitavot, in the Chil-
dren's Village at Bnei Brak.
Sponsored by a local committee
which was • formed during the
recent visit of Rabbi J. Kahane-
man, the building will provide
housing facilities for- 100 refugee
children.
This is part of the Children's
Village founded by Rabbi
Kahaneman three years ago. It
already houses over 500 children
who are still being located in
non-Jewish homes in Europe.
Details of the cornerstone lay-
ing ceremony will be brought
back by Detroiters who attended
the World Zionist Congress in
Jerusalem.
A celebration is planned by
the local committee, of which
Mrs. A. Selmar is secretary.
