Picon. She will appear Dec. 2
at the Scottish Rite Temple.

raising amateur shows are being
given weekly by children at
Woodhull Lake. All funds re-
ceived are being turned over to
the child rescue fund, with pro-
ceeds to be sent to Israel in Sep-
tember.

Lt. Dushkin Wins
U.S. Silver Star for
Bravery in Korea

Recalled to active duty in De-
cember, 1950 and sent directly
to Korea, Lt. Myron Dushkin re-
cently won the Silver Star Med-
al, this country's third highest
award for gallantry in action.
The 32-year-old soldier, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Max Dushkin of
2690 Boston ''
Blvd., won the
medal April 19
while on a tank
retrieving mis-
sion near Yur-
hyon, Korea.
T h e citation
reads:
"When his ar-
mored _column:
came under Lt. Dushkin
heavy fire, Dushkin remained
standing exposed in a tank tur-_
ret and directed fire of heavy
American machine guns.
"When his tank ran out of
ammunition and the radio
failed, he went from tank to
tank directing their fire from
outside by means of the tele-
phone mounted in the rear of
each tank.
"Later, he resupplied his own
tank with ammunition from a
second vehicle and continued to
guide fire against the enemy
until their positions were
knocked out."
Lt. Dushkin was previously
commended for action in taking
over command of his company
and completing the mission by
routing the enemy when his
commanding officer, Capt. Ben-
net Meyers, was wounded on the
field. -
This action took place during
an engagement called "Task
Force Meyers" in a "vital area
of central Korea, March 25. Lt.
Dushkin was slightly injured
during the fighting.
During the last war, Lt. Bush-
kin enlisted in April, 1941, and
was graduated from Officer
Candidate School in June, 1942.
He was sent to Germany where
he commanded an anti-tank de-
stroyer battalion in the Hurtgen
Forest drive of the Allies. Lt.
Dushkin was discharged in 1945.

Leib ,Directs Negro Chorus
. Herschel Leib on Thursday
evening directed a 30 - voice
chorus and 24-piece orchestra
at the Theme Center Stage in
Grand Circus Park, as the De-
troit Negro Civic Opera Com-
pany presented excerpts from
various operas as part of De-

troit's 250th anniversary celebra-
tion.

and Mrs. Thomas Nover, of
Hazelwood Ave., was united in
marriage to Ernest N. Kamins,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Kamins,
of East Lansing, Mich. Rabbi
Morris Adler officiated, and was
assisted by Rabbi Friedman of
Lansing.
The bride wore a gown of
chantilly lace, with matching
headpiece to which was attached
a fingertip veil. She carried
white orchids on a Bible.
Betty Goldstein, sister of the
bridegroom, was matron of
honor, and Sandra Cohen, of
Saginaw, was „maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Lee Kepes,
Cynthia Fisch and Miriam Sos-
nick. The bridegroom's nieces
were flower girls.
The bridegroom's brother-in-
law, Morris Goldstein, was best
man. His ushers included Ed-
ward Feldman, of New York,
Milford Sobel and Marty Good-
man.
Following a honeymoon to
Miami Beach, Fla., the young
couple will take up residence in
Lansing. Out-of-town guests
attending the wedding were
from New York, California,
Florida, Chicago, Kalamazoo,
Saginaw, Flint, Bay City, Owosso
and Lansing.

Citizens Committee Proposes Detroit
PEP Ordinance; Hits Communist Roles

A recently-formed D e t r o i t
Citizens Committee for Equal
Employment Opportunities or-
ganized to secure passage of such
an ordinance by the Detroit
Common Council, has filed the
text of an FEP ordinance with
each member of the Council.
Fr. John F. Finnegan, moder-
ator of the Catholic Interracial
Council, is chairman of the com-
mittee. These organizations,
representing all faiths and racial
groups, united in a drive -to op-
pose the communist - inspired
petition-referendum camp aign
for F E P C which has been
launched by the Greater Detroit
Negro Labor Council.
The committee includes Rabbi
Morris Adler, Mrs. Samuel Green,
Mrs. Pearl Harris, Dr. Shmarya
Kleinman, James N. Laker, Mrs.
Morris Tack-.
The Citizens Committee is
sponsoring a public meeting in
support of its program at Vet-
erans Memorial Building next

Hebrew Society Buys
Land for Parking Lot

The Hebrew Benevolent Soci-
ety of 2995 Joy Road announces
that it has bought 120 feet of
adjoining ta ad to be converted
into parking space.
The Hebrew Benevolent Soci-
ety chapel which is being re-
modeled and enlarged will
double its seating capacity. Work
is almost complete, and plans
are being rushed to have the
parking lots ready for use at the
time of the Chapel reopening.
The Hebrew Benevolent Soci-
ety is this year celebrating its
35th anniversary with a dinner
at the Adas Sholom Synagogue
on Dec. 2.

Wednesday evening. The com-
mittee's cooperating organiza-
tions have called upon their
constituents to refuse to sign
communist-sponsored petitions.
They especially warn against
circulars of a so-called "Labor
Council" which has been repudi-
ated by CIO and AFL,
The proposed ordinance in-
cludes not only provisions assur-
ing equal employment opportun-
ities to all but also provides for
conversion of the present May-
or's Interracial Committee into
a commission on human rela-
tions to implement the equal
employment opportunities ordi-
nance.

ers at next Wednesday's meet-
ing.
