•The purchase was made by
Benjamin Howell Griswold III, a
partner in the firm, who is a
direct descendant of the man
who founded the company in
1800.
In another impreSsive indica-
tion that State of Israel Bonds
are achieving wide recognition
as a good investment, the firm
of John C. Legg & Co. of Balti-
more has purchased $10,000 in
State of Israel Bonds. As in the
case of Alexander Brown &
Sons, the firm of John C. Legg
& .Co. is non-Jewish.
In a statement appearing in
the June issue of its bulletin
to customers, the firm of
Shearson, Hammill and Co.,
members of the New York
Stock Exchange, states as its
Considered conclusion that
"the Israel Bond Issue may. be
bought for investment", and
gives a detailed analysis of the
quantitative and qualitative
character of the $500,000,000.

Cuban Jew Crosses Ocean
To Buy $2,000 Israel Bond
MIAMI, (AJP)—A Cuban Jew
crossed the Atlantic Ocean to
buy a $2,000 Israel bond.
The prominent Havana mer-
chant, Jan Sorin, made a special
trip from Havana to Miami in
order to make his purchase.
Sorin was certain that many
other Jewish tourists from Cuba
invading Florida during the an-
nual Summer influx of Latin-
American visitors "would piir-
chase Israel bonds,” the Jewish
Floridian reported.

Schechita Ban in Bavaria
FRANKFURT, (WJA) — The
Chief Rabbinate of the U.S. Zone
of Germany in Munich has ap-
pealed to the World Jewish Con-
gress for assistance in its fight
against the recent decision of
the Municipal Council of Munich
to recommend to the Bavarian
Parliament to outlaw Schechita.

Appearing under the signa-
ture of Maurice L. Kauffman, of
the. Los Angeles office of the
firm, the statement recommends
that customers obtain and read
a copy of the prospectus of the
Israel Bond Issues as filed with
the Securities and Exchange
Commission. "Having read pro-
spectuses for a good many
years," Mr. Kauffman writes, "I
feel I am qualified to say that
this is the first I've read that
I may term inspiring. Read it."
Management and labor have
joined hands with workers of
a dozen different national ori-
gins in instituting a payroll de-
duction plan for State of Israel
Bonds at the Trimount Clothing
Company of Boston, which em-
ploys 1,500 workers.
The plan has been developed
t h r o u g h the cooperation of
Morris and Alex Shapiro, owners
of the clothing plant, Jack
Blume, secretary-treasurer of
the Joint Board of the Amalga-
mated Clothing Workers of
America, and Samuel Browan,
president of Local 1 of the ACWA
in - Boston.

have signed a treaty of friend-
ship. The pact is the outcome
of a visit - to Spain last year by
Jordan's King Abdullah.
