Israel Village Switches
Its Name to 'Hamptown'

Prophet Amos' Seal
Brought to Canada

MONTREAL (JTA)—A seal of
approximately the period of the
Prophet Amos, which carries
the image of a winged griffin,
inscribed with the name of the
Hebrew owner, was brought here
by Rev. Dr. R. B. Y. Scott, pro-
fessor of Old Testament in the
Faculty of Divinity, McGill Uni-
versity, who carried on studies
under the auspices of the Amer-
ican School of Oriental Research
in the Arab sector of Jerusalem
and Jordan.
The seal was found at Sama-
ria, formerly the capital of
Northern Israel. Besides the
seal, Dr. Scott brought back a
bronze dagger blade, found in a
cave near Hebron, and two jug-
lets from the Israelite period,
which were used to dip out oil
or wine from larger containers.
The objects will be exhibited
later on in the Museum of Bib-
lical Antiquities here.
