Commissioner of Police, George F. Boos, presented him with a gold inspector's badge and a 25-year certificate of merit in recognition of his "wise counsel, guidance and in- struction through the quarter century." Mr. Goldstick was appointed by Mayor John W. Smith on April 1, 1926, and remained as legal advisor to the Detroit Po- lice Department under 12 differ- ent police commissioners. Born in London, Ontario, Mr. Goldstick came here with his parents at the age of seven. He has been active in Jewish corn- munity affairs, having been president of the Jewish Child Placement Bureau and a mem- ber of the board of Temple Israel, vice-president of the Old Newsboys Good fellows Fund, member of the executive board of the Detroit High Schools Stu- dent Aid Foundation, member of the faculty of Wayne University and of the Police Academy, for- mer member of the board of the University of Michigan Club, member of the Jewish War Vet- erans and American Legion, past commander of Heroes of '76, a Masonic military order. He - enlisted as a Private in World War I and was later com- missioned as a Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. His father, Susel Goldstick, was for many years president of Congregation Bnai Israel — the old Mullett Street Shul. He is married to the former Ella Gold- stein. They have four children and two grandchildren. Needy Veterans' Kiddies Get Camp Scholarships Five children of needy veter- ans' families are the recipients of the Pfc. Joseph L. Bale Auxil- iary Jewish War Veterans 1951 summer camp scholarships, it is announced by President Ruth Kline and Chairman Bernice Daskal. The children will participate in the Jewish Community Cen- ter Day Camp program. Illness of parents in the fam- ily, insufficient income and min- imum living standards were the determining factors.in the selec- tion of the children.
