We Salute You, Detroit
Our City of Freedom
REEDOM is the theme of our City's
250th Birthday celebration. It is a most
appropriate title for the Arsenal of
Democracy, for the . great manufacturing
center, for the community that has shown
the way in advancing our Nation's cultural
and spiritual values. .

Jewish News Absorbs The Chronicle
In the best interests of our community, the- Detroit Jewish
Chronicle will be merged with The Detroit Jewish News beginning
- with next week.
The Jewish Chronicle will suspend publication with its issue of
July 13.
The Jewish News, having purchased The Jewish Chronicle, as-
. sumes all rights to its name, to its subscription and advertising lists
and-to. all its rights in the Jewish publishing field.
,
Unexpired paid subscriptions to the Jewish Chronicle will be ful-
filled by The Jewish. News.
. Detroit has lent reality to the famous
words of Thomas Jefferson: "Freedom of
religion, freedom of the press, and freedom
of person under protection of the habeas
corpus, these are principles that have guid-
ed our steps through an age of revolution
and reformation."
Our Jewish community shares in the
satisfaction of Detroit's accomplishments.
The contributions made by Jews, as individ-
uals and as a group, in advancing our City's
highest values are ably evaluated in the
splendid articles of Malcolm W. Bingay,
George W. Stark, J. Dorsey Callaghan,
John Manning, Judge Frank Picard, Gov-
ernor G. Mennen Williams, Mayor Albert
Cobo and others who share in the making
of this Detroit. Anniversary issue.
With Peace and Freedom as the major
aspirations of our day, we greet our fellow
Detroiters, on this Birthday, with the Hebrew
salutation: Shalom ! Peace !
