Council Resolution
Honors Ben Levinson
In_ an unanimously - adopted
resolution, .the Detroit Common
Council last week paid glowing
tribute - to the community in-
terests of Ben Levinson.
Councilmen Charles Oakman
moved the resolution in behalf
of his colleagues, Councilmen
Beck, Connor, Garlick, Kronk,
Miriani, Rogell, Smith and Van
Antwerp.
The resolution calls 'attention
to Mr. Levinson's devoted efforts
as advisory counsel to veterans
of World War II in matters in-
volving housing problems and
mortgage loans; his activities in
support of appropriations for
the expansion of the Wayne
University Medical College; his
services as legislative agent for
the Wayne medical school
which have resulted in a state
appropriation of $3,500,000; his
numerous intercessions in be-
half of veterans and his request
that veterans of the Korean
conflict be given the same bene-
fits previously conferred upon
World War II veterans, and ex-
te n d s to him the following
honors:
"In recognition of Benjamin
Levinson's many contributions to
worthy endeavors in this com-
munity and his untiring efforts
in aid of servicemen and women,
this Common Council, acting in
behalf of the Citizens of the
City of Detroit, extend their sin-
cere thanks and appreciation to
this outstanding citizen, whose
splendid example of unselfish-
ness and civic interest might
well be emulated by all.".

tional figures prominent in the
United Jewish Appeal campaign
and the $500,000,000 Israel Bond
Drive were appointed members
of a committee to coordinate ac-
tivities on behalf of the two
groups this week
The coordinating committee's
organization followed an an-
nouncement two weeks ago by
Eliezer Kaplan, Finance Minister
of Israel, that such a body would.
be established.
Designated as members of the
coordinating body were Henry
Morgenthau, Jr., Edward M. M.
Warburg, Rudolph G. Sonnen-
born, Dr. Nahum Goldmann,
Henry Montor, Dr. Joseph J.
Schwartz, Julian B. Venezky and

LONDON, (JTA) - Reports
from Tunis revealed that Jewish
circles there are becoming in-
creasingly disturbed about the
growing hostility toward them
by more moderate Moslem lead-
ers.
The moderate Moslem news-
paper "LaNanda" charged Tun-
isian Jews with using their of-
ficial position in local life to
"support assassins of our Arab
brethren in Palestine." The
newspaper also attacked the
Jewish community for organiz-
ing youth clubs and. societies
which support the state of Is-
rael.
Preparations for the resump-
tion of large-scale emigration of
Jews from Morocco and Tunisia
have been made by the Jewish
Agency, A. Ofek, European di-
rector of the Agency's Immigra.-
tion Department, announced.
Emigration from Algeria will
also be resumed.
Owing to the hostility of
North African MOslems toward'
Israel, the Jews will be unable
to board Israel-bound vessels 'at
North African ports. They will
first be transported to Marseilles
in French ships and then will '
be transshipped for the voyage
to the Jewish state.
