DIAMOND Awni,.1 C. • only 13 to Face Trial in Direct JTA Teletype Wire to The Jewish News JERUSALEM — Acting Prem- ier Moshe Sharett Monday night announced in Parliament the release of the last 16 of 56 per- sons detained several weeks ago after the smashing of the re- ligious underground movement Brit Kanaim for allegedly plot- ting to blow up the Parliament: Mr. Sharett said that only 13 of the arrested men will face trial. A police sergeant, testifying in magistrate's court hearings in the investigation of the alleged plot by the Brit Kan- aim, said he h a d found a crude home-made bomb in the home of Noah Wormesser, one of the defendants. He said the bomb was a container filled with cellulloid film and fuses which would explode with a loud noise and emit acrid fumes. In the midst of a parliamen- tary free-for-all, a Mapam re- solution censuring "religious fanatics for endeavoring to im- pose religious rules on the state" was adopted. The Mapam mo- tion was passed after. one in- troduced by the religious bloc callh%g on the Knesset not to force the issue of whether it had the power to issue orders to the government on administra- tive matters was carried. This represented a reversal of the Knesset's decision of last week in which the orthodox bloc con- curred and brought - about the Mapam's anti-religious bloc move. The religious bloc motion on Tuesday alsci carried a second part which called for the early trial of all religious under- ground members against whom the government had evidence, and the immediate release of all other detainees. The Acting Premier's announcement took the wind out of the sails of the orthodox parties on this matter. However, the Knesset appointed a seven-man committee to in- vestigate orthodox charges of °nib Plot police brutality against the de-- tamed Brit Kanaim members. In the matter of the UN role in the Israel-Syrian dispute, Parliament adopted a Mapai motion regretting the UN Se- curity Council's resolution pre- venting Israel from completing the H u 1 e h drainage project. Mapam and Herut motions for the government to disregard the UN and complete the pro- ject were turned down.
