stitute.
FOLLOWING ELECTIONS,
last week, a large, number of
delegates met at Lieberman &
Citron Restaurant . . . where
Murray Lieberman feted the
group by bringing out a couple
of bottles of wine he had been
saving for a special occasion .. .
and as toasts galor filled the
room, Jimmy blew out the candle
perched on a strawberry short-
cake placed before him by Es-
telle Lieberman.

DON'T ASK US who, but one
of the town's swellest gents is
about to be the guest of honor,
next month, at one of t h e
nicest testimonials . . . Reason
we can't reveal his name is that
he doesn't know yet of the plans
that are being made on his be-
half.

FAVORITE STORIES . . by
Rabbi Julius Weinberg, internal
relations director of the Jewish
Community Council . . . about
Jerome D. Engel, who, when
conducting one of his celebrated
revivals in Philadelphia, stop-
ped a newsboy and asked him
the way to the post office . .
The -lad told him the way and
Engel, a man of considerable
self-esteem, said, "You seem a
bright young fellow. Do you
know who I am?" The young-
ster admitted that he didn't,
and Engel said, "I am the fam-
ous preacher who is holding the
revival over in the big taber-
nacle. If you will come to my
meeting, tonight, I will show
you the way to Heaven" . . . and
the - newsboy said, "Aw, go on,
you don't even know the way to
the post office."
* * *
BOB VENETIANER, newly-
.elected president of Philip
Handler Bnai Brith Lodge, was
a proud father and husband .. .
when children, Judy and Ruth,
came home from school with
passing report cards . . . a n d
wife, Sophie, presented him with
another passing report . .
her driver's test.

MEYER SILVER.MAN, who ;e
thoughtfulness for others had
made him one of this city's best
arrangers of testimonials, was
himself a guest of honor at a
surprise affair . . . Gold Star
Parents, of which he is presi-
dent, caught him completely off
guard by remembering his birth-
day ... and by honoring him at
the same time for his work on
behalf of this organization and
our community ... Thinking he
was coming only to a regular
business meeting, Meyer found
himself presented with a hand-
somely-decorated birthday cake
and with an exceptionally-at-
tractive clock ... Deeply touch-
ed, the usually articulate Meyer

mused later that he could think
of nothing to say . "Which for
me is a sad state of affairs," he
added.

THE NEW JEWISH hospital
on Outer Drive is already in
its third story of building .. .
The structure will be seven
stories high with 200 beds .. .
and will be known as the
Sinai Hospital.

ON THEIR WAY TO Jackson,
recently, - Haskell Lazere, Michi-
gan director, and Leo Shapiro,
ADL's national director of edu-
cation, stopped at Ann Arbor to
visit a couple of university pro-
fessors and talk over plans for
workshops on intercultural edu-
cation . . . One thing led to an-
other and they left the home of
one professor to visit the other
prof's house and admire his gar-
den . . . All of a sudden, Prof.
Fred Walcott asked the boys
where the Anti - Defamation
League got its money . . . When
he learned most of it came from
welfare federation plus Bnai
Brith dues, he said very timidly,
"Can Gentiles contribute to
ADL?" . . . Knowing what he
had in mind and cognizant of
his low salary, Lazere and Shap-
iro voiced a reluctant "yes," but
told the prof he was already
contributing to the cause by his
excellent teaching in the field
of human relations . . . He ig-
nored all protests and pulled
out his check book . . . Lazere,
who expected at most a check
for $5, almost keeled over when
Prof. Walcott apologized f o r
giving ADL a check for $25.

THE ETERNAL LIGHT

Time: 8 a.m., Sunday, June 3.
Station. WWJ.
Feature: A story which took
place in Poland some 300 years
ago is related in "The Choice,"
written by Joseph Mindel. It
tells of a man and his wife and
the First Psalm, and how the
Psalm survived a massacre.

Yehudi Menuhin receives
certificates of land ownership
in Israel.

* * *
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Yehudi
Menuhin plans to build a villa
on the Mediterranean Sea, near
the village of Hadera, in the fu-
ture, it is revealed in National
Jewish Monthly, published by
Bnai Brith. Land for the villa
was given to him by the Bnai
Brith Lodge in Hadera, and Me-
nuhin bought additional land
for the estate.
This was the result of a con-
cert which Menuhin presented
ire Hadera, for the benefit of a
Home for the Aged which Bnai
Brith intends to build there.
M. Shneerson, a member of
the Hadera Bnai Brith Lodge,
presented the famous violinist
with a book containing Menu-
hin's -family tree. It proved that
the virtuoso was a descendant
of Rabbi,Shneer Zalmon of Lodi,
the founder of "Habad" Chassi-
dism. Menuhin was so surprised
and delighted to learn this, that
he promised Shneerson he would
come to Hadera and play there
the following year.

Orthodox Groups Meet
To Revive 'Journal'

groups conferred in a move to
reopen the Jewish Morning
Journal, suspended two months
ago because of its inability to
meet financial commitments and
the rising costs of production.
A spokesman for Mizrachi- con-
firmed a report that the re-
ligious-Zionist organization rep-
resenting 70,0 0 0 members
through the
States had
entered into
into discussions with
"other groups" in an effort to
resume publication of the Jour-
nal. They denied any financial
commitments had been pledged
toward support of the daily if it
should reappear.
. "Other groups" participating
in discussions aimed at reviving
the paper reportedly include the
National Council for Young Is-
rael.
