PLANNED ENTERTAINMENT — ALL WEEK

WILLIAM HORDES receives $10,000 check from CARL MITCH-
ELTREE, president of Columbus Life Insurance Co., for the pur-
chase of Israel bonds, as the non-Jewish leader examines the
recipient's personal Israel coupon bond in the insurance company's
office in Columbus.

Non-Jews as well as Jews are
showing great confidence in the
-Israel bond drive.
An outstanding example of
trust in the Israel effort is the
purchase of $10,000 Israel bonds
through William Hordes by the
Columbus Mutual Life Insurance
Co.
In remitting the check for
$10,000 for the purchase of a
15-year 3 1/2% bond in this
amount, Carl Mitcheltree,
dent of the Columbus Mutual
Life Insurance Co., writing from
Columbus, 0., to Mr. Hordes,
stated:
"For over a decade the -Offi-
cers of The Columbus Mutual
Life Insurance Company have
watched your sincere and un-
tiring efforts in helping estab-
lish the State of Israel.
"We -have observed your devo-
tion and labor toward that goal
and it has been a. source of
great pride to us to participate
in the planting of the Hordes
Forest near the Holy City.
"We have taken no little pride
in your son, Herbert J. Hordes,
for his courage in sharing in the
battle of liberation of Israel. We
have observed and studied with
great interest the economic de-
velopment of the new State,
which in our opinion is not only
a progressive State, but one
affording a bulwark of democ-
racy in these uncertain days.
Its "open-door" policy of free
immigration is very commend-
able as viewed from a humani-
tarian standpoint.
"As tangible evidence of our
confidence in the State of Israel,
we are very happy to hand you
herewith the Company's check
for $10,000 to apply to the pur-
chase of the current issue of
bonds."
Mr. Hordes is chairman of the
Israel bond committee of the
Arlazaroff Branch of Farband,
the Jewish National Workers'
Alliance.

JNF Asks Support for
Israel's Huleh Stand

JERUSALEM, (J T A) ;— T h e
Jewish National Fund issued a
call to its supporters through-
out the world to support the
project of reclaiming the Hpleh
swamps and "provide the means .
to bring this plan to fruition to
the advancement of Israel and
to the weal of mankind."
The appeal, referring to the
stoppage of work on the project
ordered by the United Nations
Security Council pending agree-
ment for its -esumption, de-
clared that the "great humani-
tarian idea of freeing an im-
portant area from waste will not
be stifled. The _issue of • plough-
shares versus swords will, in the
end, decide in favor of. civiliza-
tion and progress."

Schaver, co-chairmen of the
Labor Zionist Bond Committee,
which includes the Farband
groups, announcing the sale
made by Mr. Hordes, praised
him for his efforts.

"Mr. Hordes has done a
magnificent job thus far,"
they stated. "He not only
made the trip to Columbus to
enlist the -cooperation of tart
Columbus Mutual -Life Insur-
ance Co., but he is devoting
himself wholeheartedly. to'
sales among Farband mem-
bers and among individuals in
the community."
Schumer • and Schaver are

active in the organizations di-
vision and are mobilizing num-
erous groups and their members
in support of the bond drive.
