Bnai Moshe Marks Advance
In Educational Program

The beginning of Detroit
Jewry's newest and what will be
one of its largest educational
institutions was formally dedi-
cated last Sunday at Cong. Bnai
Moshe.
Hundreds of community resi-
dents attended the formal cor-
nerstone la y in g ceremonies
which marks the building of
a new home for Jewish learning
in the city.
In the words of Rabbi Irving
Lehrman, who was guest speak-
er at the ban:Wet which fol-
lowed, the gift of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Grosberg, donors of the
site of the new building, is a
"gift not only to Detroit but to
every Jewish community in
America."
Rabbi Lehrman is the brother
of Rabbi Moses Lehrman, spi-
ritual leader of Bnai Moshe, and
is rabbi of the Miami Beach
Center and Synagogue.
AS a result of Rabbi Lehr-
man's dramatic speech, which
highlighted the day's pro-
gram, an additional sum of
$10,000 was subscribed by
those present. - Originally, $55,-
000 had been raised for the
Hebrew School. The goal is

$125,00.

Rabbi Lehrman called atten-
tion to Spengler's philosophical
work, "The Rise of the West,"
emphasizing that Spengler's the-
ory was that nations and peo-
ple are born, mature, make a
contribution and die.
"The Jewish people are not
mentioned in his work," said the
rabbi, "and there is a reason. It
is because the Jewish people
were born, they matured, they
certainly made a contribution,
but they refused to die."

Synagogues to Honor
Detroit's War Dead

Dr. Goldstick to Head
Beth El's Men's Club

"When I was in Europe re-
Dr. Hilliard Goldstick was
cently on a mission for the elected
of the Men's
United Jewish Appeal I visited Club of president
Temple Beth El at the
a Jewish museum in Prague.
The museum is larger than the
museum of the Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary," Rabbi Lehrman
continued. "Hitler built that
museum because he thought it
would bear testimony to the
fact that there once was a Jew-
ish people. And the tragedy is,
he almost succeeded.
"I also witnessed the remain-
der of a synagogue in Warsaw,
which had left only its two front
pillars. I now see that Syna-
gogue, that symbol of Torah
and Jewish learning transplant-
ed in America — transplanted
here in Detroit in the building
of a new educational institution."
"We are taking the coffins

of 6,00,000 dead Jews and re-
creating them into desks in
schools of study. This is the
answer to Jewish survival and
to Jewish living," he said.

Mitchell Feldman, vice-presi-
dent of Cong. Bnai Moshe, pre-
sided at the cornerstone cere-
monies and at dinner, before he
turned the proceedings over to
Joseph Staub, who served as
toastmaster. -
Staub introduced Eugene
Weiss, president; Mrs. Julius
He r s h, Sisterhood president;
Harry Gunsberg, Men's Club
president; and Theodore Curtis,

remarks.

and Mrs. Grosberg for their
generous contribution was read
and delivered to t h e Gros-

in the cornerstone ceremonies.
Remarks were also delivered
by Abe Kasle, president of the
United Hebrew Schools, which
will use the building during th
week for Hebrew School classes.
Bnai Moshe will use, the build-
ing for Sunday School sessions.

Rabbi Moses Lehrman also
paid tribute to the Grosbergs
and to Mr. Grosberg's parents,.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Grosberg,
whose memory the building
will perpetuate. He termed
the gift a "wonderful memor-
ial to a total Jew, to a Tal-
mudist and a scholar. What
a wonderful expression it is
for a son to give to a father
—a tribute to the study of
Torah."

Rabbi Moses Fischer spoke at
the cornerstone laying ceremo-
nies and delivered the invoca-
tion at the dinner. Cantor Da-
vid Katzman and the Bnai -
