Halevy Introduces New Work At 26th Annual Concert The program at the 26th an- nual concert of the Halevy Choral Society will contain 19 popular selections from Israeli and Yiddish classics besides liturgical chants, it was an- nounced this week by L. J. Blume, president of Halevy. The concert will be given at 8:30 p. m. this Sunday, May 27, in the Detroit Institute of Arts. Cantor Arele Diamond of New York, noted tenor, will be the guest soloist. Dan Frohman, who has been the Halevy con- ductor for 18 years, will direct the concert. William Gayman, one of the founders of Halevy, is the associate conductor who will conduct the first two num- bers on the program. Morris Shane will sing the solo in "Havdoloh" and Irene Pianin with the help of the Halevy choir will sing "Gulat Tziyon" (Redemption of Israel), a new song composed by Dr. William Klein, past president of Halevy. It has been arranged by Mr. Frohman with the He- brew lyrics by A. Tabak and the English version by Moses Ben- jamin. The program has been ar- ranged to appeal to the tastes of all Jewish music lovers. Halevy has won a wide repu- tation during the 26 years of its existence. It has brought to Detroit many new works. It is the oldest and largest independ- ent JeWish choral group in the state. Y. — SYria, late Tuesday, in a mes- sage to the president of the United - Nations Security Coun- cil, stated that Israel, "though duly notified is still ignoring" last Friday's Council resolution calling for a halt to the work on the Huleh drainage project. Asserting that it was itself exercising the - "utmost re- straint," the Syrian government, through its UN delegate, stated that nevertheless "grave conse- quences" would follow if Israel continued its "willful disregard" of the resolution. The Syrian note added that Syria was "anx- ious, seek a just settlement of the pute is with Israel "in con- formity with the provisions of the resolution." UN Move Angers Israel TEL AVIV (JTA)—Israeli au- thorities weighed the advisabil- ity of partial mobilization of the nation's military reserves as it became known that elements of the Iraqi Air Force have reached Syria. A Damascus, broadcast said that the Iraqi force in Syria consists of eight fighter planes and a number of anti-aircraft guns with their crews. A Foreign Office spokesman indicated that Israel is highly disappointed over the resolution adopted on Friday by the UN Security Council ordering the Israel government to discon- tinue the drainage of the swamps in the demilitarized zone of the Huleh area. "The reclamation of the Hu- leh swamps," the spokesman said, "is Israel's absolute right and vital task.
