George Sklar Writes
New Novel on Tennis
Player's Conflicts.

George Sklar,. able novelist,
has- produced an eiciting 'Story .
in his latest work, "The Piomis:-
ing Young Men," published by
Crown (419 4th Ave., I4Y16);
The title refers to the gradu-
ates from our schools who aspire
tO great heights in sports. In
this novel, , it is Steve .Kropa,
champion tennis. player, who
rises to. the tap only- to meet
decline as a result of amorous
involvements.
He changes his name to Krowe,
at the insistence of another
champ. There are conflicts ga-
lore-all arising from the - fact
that a very poor boy suddenly
acquires wealth and power, mar-
ries a rich girl and is devoured
by. sex.
The disillusionment, the ugly
scenes, the degradation of get-
ting monetary favor8 ftom a
rich wife, point to inner suffer-
ings that come from reaching
otit for sports poWers and for
high life.
"The Promising Young Men"
is -a well-written novel that will
be read with keen interest.

Koston Hoodlums Clash

BOSTON (AJP) - Teen-age
hoodhulis dashed again with
Jewish boys in the Boston area
for the second time in six
months but Boston Jewish of-
ficials said that prompt police
action had diminished the vio-
lence.
The new outbreak was reveal-
ed at a meeting of the Jewish
Community Council of Metro-
politan Boston by Director Rob-
ert Segal as involving youths
mostly between the ages of 16
and 18.

Rabbi Resigns YMHA Post
To Return to Active Rabbinate

Mt. Sinai Doctors
Save the Eyesight
Of Israeli Infant

NEW YORK .(AJP)-The med-
ical skill of doctors at Mount
Sinai hospital have triumphed
in the fight to save the eyesight
and life of a 15-month old child,
Solomon Klein, rushed here from
Israel.
The -child, was brought hers
by hiS father, as a last move to
halt • the ravages of polio and
glaucoma, a disease that causes
blindness.
. Rabbi William K. Friedman Of
Union City, N. J., said that nine
operations had - been performed
on the boy in - 4-Srael.- without
Success.
After two operations, the
child has recovered to the point
where - he.. can -stand and soon
may be abie to walk again.
One of the operations defin-
itely saved the boy's eyesight,
and he may be able to leave the
hospital for Israel in about three
months.
