The Symbol of Freedom

Detroit Synagogues Prepare
For Observance of Passover

The holiday of joy and thank-
ful reverence for our people's
deliverance from E g y p t i an
bondage—the Passover—will be
observed in our synagogues to-
night, Saturday and Sunday and
on April 27 and 28. Following is
a list of activities each syna-
gogue has planned.
At Cong. Bnai David, a siyum
will be held at 7:30 a.m., today
for b'Chorim (the first born).
Evening services will be held at
7 p.m. • On Saturday, R a bbi
Joshua S. Sperka will preach on
"Four Sons—Four Parties." Min-
cha at 7 p.m. On Sunday Rabbi
Sperka will speak on "A Free,
Man in a Slavish System."
All morning services of Chol-
Moed Pesach will be held at 7:30
a.m. On April 27, at 8:45 p.m.,
Rabbi Sperka will preach on
"The Rebirth of a People." At
Yizkor services at 11 a.m., April
28, the last day of Passover,
Rabbi Sperka will sermonize on
"Generations Pass and Genera-
tions Come." Cantor Hyman Ad-
ler and the Bnai David Choir,
under the direction of Harry
Siegel will chant at all services.

At services at Cong. Beth
Aaron, Rabbi Gorrelick will
preach Saturday on "The Se-
der, a Precious Symbol and a
S i g n i ficant Directive." On
Sunday be will speak on "The
Meaning of Freedom for Our
Day." Evening services start
at 7 p.m.; morning serives at
8:45 a.m.

At Cong. Ad as Yeshurun,
Rabbi Leo Goldman will conduct
services at 7 p.m., today; at 9:15
a.m., and 8 p.m., Saturday; and
at 9:15 a.m. Sunday. He wi,ll
preach on "The Meaning of
Passover Today."
Evening services begin at 6
p.m., Friday, at Adas Shalom
Synagogue. Rabbi Jacob E. Segal
will preach sermons at both
morning services, which begin
at 8:30 a.m. Cantor Nicholas
Fenakel, assisted by the male
choir, will chant the Passover
music.
Evening services at Cong.
Shaarey Zion will be held at 7
p.m., today. Rabbi Leo Goldman
will preach on "Passover — the
Feast of Freedom"—at Saturday
services, beginning at 9 a.m.
Saturday night services are at
8 p.m., and Sunday morning
services at 9 a.m.
Rabbi Leo Neuhaus will con-
duct the services at Cong. Ge-
miluth Chassodim at 7 p.m.,
Friday, at 8:45 a.m., Saturday
when he will speak on "Peace
and Freedom," Saturday night
at 7:10 p.m. and Sunday at 8:45
a.m.

Rabbi Solomon H. Gruskin
will speak during the holiday
in both Yiddish and English,
at. Cong. Bnai Zion services.
On Saturday his topic will be
_ "!The Four Sons." Sunday he
will speak on "Four Freedoms."
At Yizkor services he will
speak on "Deathless Life."
Cantor Isaac Katz will chant
the services.
The siyum for the first born

will be conducted by Rabbi Jo-
seph Thumin at 'T a.m., today,
at Cong. Beth Abraham. Rabbi
Israel I. Halpern will preach
during both morning services
and guest Cantor Eugene Green-
field will chant the services.

7:15 p.m., at the April 27 eve-
