Temple Beth El to Honor Dr. Glazer on
25th Anniversary in the Rabbinate, 10th
Anniversary Here, at April 27 Service

Temple Beth El will pay trib-
ute to its rabbi, Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer, on the occasion of his
25th anniversary in the rabbin-
a t e and 10th anniversary at
Temple Beth El, at a special an-
niversary service, Friflay, April
27. at 8:15. Participants will be:
Dr. Maurice N. Eisendrath, pres-
ident of the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations; Dr. Sam-

County Chapter of the Michigan
Society for Mental Hygiene. It
was largely his leadership that
was responsible for the passage
of the bond issue for mental
hospitals in Michigan. He has
fought for the enactment of Fair
Employment Practice Legislation
and laws successfully in his cam-
paign to eliminate discrimin-
atory literature from the State
Tourist Bureaus. He is one of the
founders and board member of
t h e Michigan Committee on.
Civil Rights and advisor on civil
rights to Governor Williams. He
is the founder of the Institute
on Judaism for the ChriStian
ministers of the community,
held annually under the aus-
pices of Temple Beth El. He has
been appointed by the Gover-
nors of Michigan on many com-
missions.

Dr. Glazer spoke a number of
times on the Church of the Air
radio program, as well as Mes-
sage of Israel coast-to-cost radio
program. He has been giving the
annual Thanksgiving address
before the Rotary Club and ad-
dressed teachers and s c h o o l
principals throughout the state.
He is the author of a number of
works on Judaism and has pre-
sented two brilliant papers be-
fore the Central COnference of
American Rabbis.
He is married to Ada Spiegle
of Pittsburgh. They are the par-
ents of .Stephanie an d Mark

The liturgical music, composed
especially for the occasion by
Jason H. Ticktori, music director
of the Temple, will be rendered
by a double quartette. A recep-
tion for Dr. and Mrs. Glazer will
be held in the Franklin Mem-
orial Hall after the service.
His First Posts
Dr. B. Benedict Glazer born
in Dallas, Texas, Aug. 18, 1902,.
son of Rabbi Simon and Ida
(Cantor) Glazer. He was ordain-
ed at Hebrew • Union College in
1926 and in the same year re-
ceived his Master of Arts degree
from the University of Cincin-
nati.
In 1938, he received his Doc-
tor of Philosophy Degree from
the Graduate School of the Uni-
versity of Pittsburgh.
FroM 1926 to 1927, Rabbi Gla-
zer Served as first Regional Rab-
bi for the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations and was
responsible for the organization
of religious schools, Br other -
hoods, Sisterhoods and congre-
gations in small communities of
Pennsylvania. From 1927 to 1934,
he served at Temple R o de f
Shalom in Pittsburgh, as Assist-
ant to Rabbi Samuel H. Golden-:
son. In Pittsburgh, he was active
in civic, religious and university
groups. As chairman of the com-
mittee on social action of the
Pittsburgh Council for P e a c e
and Social Action, he arbitrated
many industrial disputes, not-
ably the Hotel Workers' Strike in
1934.
From 1934 to 1941, Dr. Glazer
was associated with Dr. Golden-
son in the ministry of Temple
Emanu-El New York, as senior
associate rabbi. He was vice
president of the New York Board
of Jewish Ministers, member of
the administrative committee
and chairman of the Army and
Navy Committee of the Syna-
gogue Council of America, mem-
ber of the religious- activities
committee of the Jewish Wel-
fare Board, board member of the
Emanu-El Settlement House and
- Educational Alliance, member of
the executive committee of the
Central Conference of American
Rabbis, and other organizations.

Of Orthodox in Armed Forces

NEW YORK—A special agency
to care for the specific needs of
orthodox Jewish men in the
Armed Forces was opened by
Agudath Israel, 130 W. 42nd St.
This. agency, which will be
known as the Jewish Service-
men's Religious Bureau was ori-
ginally organized during World
War II, and has been reactivat-
ed as a result of the increasing
numbers of orthodox Jews en-
tering military serving.
