'The Journey,' Dramatic Saga Filmed in Israel,
Portrays (]JA's Role in Resettling Immigrants

"The Journey," a new film de-
picting the arrival of newcomers
to Israel and their problems of
readjustment, has been released
by the United Jewish Appeal for
exhibit throughout the country.
Produced in Israel for the
United Jewish Appeal by John
•Ferno and directed by Robert
Capa, "The Journey" vividly
tells of a group of immigrants
with widely different back-
grounds who arrive in the Jew-
ish state to start life afresh,
their initial processing at a re-
ception camp and their journey
to a settlement where their
dreams of a homeland become a
reality as they begin to till the
land and build their homes.
Combining the authenticity of
a documentary with a striking
and personal drama, "The Jour-
ney," begun in Israel last fall, is
introduced by Henry Morgen-
thau, Jr., honorary chairman of
the United Jewish Appeal.
At the close of the film, Ed-
ward M. M. Warburg, general
chairman of the 1951 UJA urges
the audience to remember the
urgent tasks confronting Israel
in settling 200,000 homeless Jews.
In the course of its brief story,
"The Journey" offers intimate
glimpses of settlement life, the
excitement of building, planting

and transforming a "raw kib-
butz" into a civilized settlement.
"The Journey" was photo-
graphed by Jacques Letellier.
The script was written by Mil-
lard Lampell, and Maurice Thie-
ret composed the musical score,
'based on Hebrew folk themes.
The film, which runs' for 25 min-
utes, was edited by Francoise
Diot. James Schmitt is narrator.
