who arrived in Israel this week
on a mission from the telephone
company, which appointed her to
train instructors here in the
"polite and courteous service" of
telephone communication.
She got the appointment after
the telephone company received
a request from Dov Joseph, Is-
rael minister of Communica-
tions.
Mrs. Leavy will spend two
months in Israel giving courses
in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jeru-
salem.
She lives in Elmhurst, Long
Island.

BUDAPEST (JTA)-The Jew-
ish community of Hungary must
recognize that it must support
its institutions by itself, Lajos
Stoeckler, head of the represen-
tative body of Hungarian Jews,
said this week in a report to
the, organization's annual meet-
ing. He said the transfer of
social work activities from the
American Jewish Joint Distribu-
tion Committee to the commun-
ity had proceeded without any
hitches.
He stressed that future activ-
ity of the organization must be
along the lines of deepening the
religious life of the community.
He reported that the organiza-
tion's executive body was seek-
ing a solution to the question of
Sabbath observance.
The speaker said that the
community must support the
peace movement because "we do
not want Auschwitz and fascism
which reactionary manifesta-
tions are bound to mean."
