RUMORS THAT a local cater-

himself as strictly kosher are
being investigated . . . If true, he
will have gotten away with
much falsification before being

Jewish-style.

FOR WEEKS :AND WEEKS,
little Sheldon Rogin had been
pestering his father to buy him
a puppy . . . and his father,
Harold Rogin, kept repeating,
"You can't have one just now.
You know very well that soon
you'll have a little baby brother
or sister to play with, so please
stop asking for a dog." . . . Last
week, his father told Sheldon
that he had a. brother and ask-
ed him if he would like to see
him . . Sheldon reluctantly
agreed to go up to the bedroom
to see his new playmate . He
gazed scornfully at the red-
faced, squawking' infant and
turned to his father . • . "Daddy,"
he said, "I want a puppy."

BEN BURDICK, local GOP
leader, was telling some friends
at lunch that his wife Mary for-
bids him to buy his own neck-
ties . a task which she as-
sumes for him . . Recently,
while his wife was on a trip, Ben
saw a house that enthused him
to the point where he would
have considered buying it ... He
wrote to her, describing the
place . . . and post haste got her
reply saying that she knew ex-
actly what the house was like,
and did not want it . . . "Imag-
ine my chutzpah," philosophized
Ben, "a guy that can't buy a
necktie for himself even think-
ing about buying a house."

OFFICIALS AT the Jewish
Community Council still don't
know whether it was a new twist
to anti-Semitic propaganda or
an April fool gag when an un-
identified lady called the Coun-
cil office . . . and asked excite&
ly if it was • true that Jews are
not permitted to eat pie with
a fork.

WORD IS THAT many home-
owners in the community are
becoming very annoyed and
irate because of the pestering
tactics of a handful of local
real estate dealers . .. who, for
their own selfish reasons, are
anxiously trying to get listings
in the 12th St. area among
others . . . and stop at almost
nothing to get them . . . It seems
as though these real estate op-
erators do not know how to take
"no" for an answer when they
are told by a resident that he
doesn't want to move or sell his
home . . . and use all sorts of.
ruses to make him change his
mind.

NEWSPAPER MAN L o u
Tendler tells the story about a
classic boner in the newspaper
world . . . A large daily was
running sewing patterns as a
feature service to its women
readers . . . Illustrations on a
pattern for a hat were print-
ed . . . but through a mistake,
the accompanying photograph
was of a bathing suit being
posed by a model . . . The
crowning touch was the cap-
tion, which read . . . "Easy To
Make—Conies In All Sizes."
Results of the mercantile di-
vision and arts and crafts din-
ner in behalf of the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign are reported by

New JNF Dept. Offers
Income to Investors
The Department of Living
Legacies, recent ly established
by the Jewish National Fund of
America, was highly praised at
a meeting held at the Para-
mount Restaurant in New York,
in the presence of a select audi-
ence composed of leading Zion-
ists in New York City and vi-
cinity. Under the Living Lega-
cies plan the JNF guarantees a
fixed annual income for life to
American Jews who assign their
capital to the JNF for use in
the upbuilding of the Jewish
Homeland. The department was
organized on the initiative of
Dr. Abraham Granott, JNF
world president, who recently
came on a visit to the United
States to participate in the
golden jubilee conference of the
JNF in Washington, D.C. The
new department is also active
in securing insurance policies
from American Jews who wish
