`Twist' Opening Set
For Houston, April 26

NEW YORK. (AJP)—The first
United States showing of the
much-disputed British film ver-
sion of "Oliver Twist," will be
held in Houston, Tex., on April
26.
The film, whose showing has
been effectively halted for more
than two years by Jewish pro-
tests, recently was edited under
orders of the Production Code
Authority of the Motion Pic-
ture Producers' Association.
PCA had refused to issue a
seal of approval for the original
version.
Nearly 90 cuts were made in
the film, mdgtly scenes involving
Fagin, the Jewish character
whom Jewish groups • have
charged is portrayed in a man-
ner certain to . increase anti-
Semitism.
The informal ban on the film
in the United States had arous-
ed charges of censorship.
