Temple Israel Dedication
Festival to Last 4 Days

In celebration of the dedica-
tion of its new building, Temple
Israel will observe a four-day
festival beginning T h u r s d
night, April 12, and continuing
through Sunday afternoon, April
15.
In addition to religious ser-
vices Thursday and Friday
nights, there will be a dedica-
tion dance Saturday night, April
14, and open house for the Jew-
ish community and Christian
friends Sun.day afternoon, April
15.
The pupils of Temple Israel
religious school will hold their
ewn dedication services Sunday
Morning, April 15.

Dedicatory ceremonies April
12 and 13 will include the Pro-
cession. of the Scrolls. Six
Scrolls of the Torah will be
brought from outside the
building into the Auditorium.
They will be carried by lead-
ers of the congregation and
escorted by members of the
board of trustees. Preceded
by Cantor Robert S. Tulman
singing Bloch's "Ma Tovu,"
the marchers will execute • a
Hakofo or a circuit around
the Temple auditorium and
then deposit the Scrolls in the
Ark.

The Ark of the Temple will be
kindled by Sol R. Colton, chair-
man of the building fund cam-
paign. The key to the new build-
ing will be delivered to Harry
C. LeVine, president of the con-
gregation, by Louis H. Schostak,
chairman of the building com-
mittee.
Mrs. William P. Greenberg,
president of the Sisterhood.
Mesdames Samuel Blacher and
Samuel B. Danto, past presi-
dents of the Sisterhood, and Mrs.
David B. Keywell, chairman of
the dedication volume, will pre-
sent the dedication flowers and
light the candles.
Jacob A. Citrin, vice-president
of the congregation and Mr.
Arthur J. Hass, secretary, will
participate in the ceremony of
the reading from the Scroll.
The dedication ceremonies will
be conducted by George M.
Stutz, past president, and Max
Osnos. chairman of the program.

Psychoanalyst Speaks at
Adas Shalom Tuesday

Dr. Louis A. Schwartz, psycho-
analyst,' will z.ddress the Adult
Study Institute of Adas Shalom
Synagogue (Northwest) Tuesday
9 p.m. His lecture is part of
the series on "Psychiatry and
Religion." Dr. Schwartz, a fel-
low of the American Psychiatric
Association and lecturer in Ex-
tension Division of the Univer-
sity of Michigan, will speak on
"The Psychological Aspects of
Marriage." A film relevant to the
lecture will be shown.

Dedication preachers will be
Rabbi Leon Fram of Temple Is-
rael, Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver of
Cleveland and Rabbi Solomon
B. Freehof of Pittsburgh.
Music for the service has been
arranged by Karl W. Haas who
will conduct two choirs. the
Temple choir and the Sisterhood
Choral group. Several selections
by Bloch - and Binder will be
heard for the first time in De-
troit at these services. Mr. Hass
has composed a special
"Shehecheyonu" to be sung by
Cantor Tulman and the choirs.
At the children's service, Toby
Citrin of Temple Israel High
School, class of 1952, will deliver
a sermonette on "What Temle
Israel Means to Me." John Shep-
herd will conduct the service.
All will have a part in the pro-
gram which will be directed by
Miss Mae Dix. The congregation
will present each child with a
souvenir gift.
At the open house, there will
be a tour of the building, direct-
ed by a reception committee
headed by Reuben Levine. Re-
freshments will be served.

Rabbi Blau Compiled
Important Work; Gets
Detroiters' Support

Rabbi M. Y. Blau, disting-
uished New York scholar who is
here in the interest of his pub-
lication on RITVOH— Yom Tov
ben Israel of Seville, Spain, who
was a pupil of RASHBO, a pu-
pil of Nachniannides — contain-
ing hitherto unpublished Mater-
ial, states that he is enlisting
the aid of Detroit in his work.
The Israel Chief Rabbis and
Rabbi Leo Jung are among his
staunch supporters.
Last week's announcement in-
advertently stated that Rabbi
Jung is the compiler of the doc-
ument. It should have stated
that the work is being compiled
by Rabbi Blau and we make the
correction _accordingly.

Dougherty, Dr. Molner
In Shaarey Zedek Panel

. Brig. Gen. Clyde E. Dougherty,
director of the Detroit Office of
Civil Defense and Dr. Joseph G
Molner, Detroit health commis-
sioner,- will be presented by the
Men's Club of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek at 8 p.m., April 10.
They will discuss "Are You
Defenseless Against the Atomic
Bomb?" Dr. Max Liechter will
act as moderator. William Nad-
ler, Dr. Morris Burstein and Hy
Keidan will' be co-chairmen.
Gen. Dougherty is also direc-
tor of Wayne County Civil De-
fense and chairman of metro-
politan area committee on civil
defense, which _includes Wayne,
Oakland, Macomb and Washte-
naw Counties, and the State
Civil Defense Committee.

gogue Program" will be the
theme of the second annual
convention of the Great Lakes
region of the Union of Ameri-
can Hebrew Congregations on
April 7 and 8 at the Statler
Hotel.
There will be workshops on
Sunday, April 8, on "How To
Make The Religious School More
Effective," "Programs That At-
tract. and Hold Young People's
Groups," "How to Secure Better
Attendance at Public Worship"
and"Financial Planning in the
Synagogue."
The convention will begin
Saturday evening, April 7, with
a cocktail party and reception
