Jewish Judge Allows
Catholic Statue to Stay
NEW ORLEANS— (AJP)—
Thanks to a Jewish judge, the
statue of a Roman Catholic Nun
will stay on a city boUlevard
here. Judge L. H. Yarrut of the
Civil District Court here, dis-
missed a Protestant suit against .
the city, seeking removal of the
.statue of St. Francis Xavier Ca-
brini.
`.`In -view of the evidences of
her benevolences and work
among the poor, it leads me, a
non-Christian, to interpret it as
`suffer little children- to come
unto me for such is the King-
dom. of Heaven,' " Judge Yarrut
commented.
The five Protestant ministers
-testified they believed the pres-
ence of the statue on public
property involved- a violation of
the principle of the separation
of church and state.
