Gelfands at Banquet

Northwest's Name:
Cong. Adas Shalom

Northwest Hebrew Congre-
gation and Center, at a recent
general meeting, upon the
recommendation of the board
of trustees, voted to assume
the name "Adas Shalom" —
Congregation of Peace.
Although it was recognized
that the name "Northwest
Hebrew Congregation" had
become popular in the com-
munity, it was felt that,
properly, a Jewish institution
should be graced by a Hebrew
name.
Orders have been given by
Ira G. Kaufman, president of
the synagogue, and J. Maur-
ice Karo and Charles Charlip,
chairmen of the building
committee, that the name
"Adas Shalom" be etched on
the lintel over the doorway
of the synagogue now being
built.
All steel work has been
erected and brick work is now
in progress. It is expected
that within a month the
stone bearing the new name
will have been closed over the
new doorway. The synagogue
will be completed by August
and will serve as the sanctu-
ary for the High Holy Days.
A few more families will be
admitted to- membership for
seating in the main chapel,
and thereafter new members
will be seated in the present
social hall.
