Rosenberg Resigns
From Panamanian Post

5

Louis James Rosenberg, in-
ternational lawyer, resigned as
Consul General of Panama at
Detroit, because of "matters de-
manding his attention."
Rosenberg has been the Con-
sular representative of Panama
at Detroit for 28 years. Two
years ago he was made Consul
General, and five years ago,
Panama, in recognition of sig-
nal service, conferred upon him
the decoration of Knight of the
Order of Balboa.
Rosenberg was at one time in
the American Diplomatic Serv-
ice in Spain and Brazil. He has
been attorney for various diplo-
matic and consular officers,
and as counsel in several ex-
tradition cases for the Dominion
of Canada.
For services rendered, he re
ceived the official thanks of the
State Department, and citations
from several foreign govern-
ments.
He has written and lectured
on foreign affairs, and is an
active member of the American
Association of the United Na-
tions and many organizations
devoted to art, literature and
philosophy.

Dr. Auerbach Plans Libel
Suits Against Attackers

BERLIN, (JTA)-The execu-
tive of the Central Council of
German Jews issued a state-
m e n t protesting against the
campaign of slander and incite-
ment being carried on against
the Jews in connection with the
recent suspension of Dr. Philip
Auerbach, Jewish head of the
Bavarian Restitution Office.
Dr. Auerbach, meanwhile, has
brought libel suits against Hein-
rich Junker, Christian Demo-
cratic member of the Bavarian
Parliament who has charged
him with embezzlement, and
against Fritz Hollstein, editor of
"Die Tat" who charged that the
Jewish leader had secured pre-
ferential treatment for himself
from the Nazis when he was in
a concentration camp and that
he beat fellow prisoners.

HIAS Adopts Campaign
Budget of $3,160,000

NEW YORK, (JTA) - A 1951
campaign goal of $3,160,000 was
adopted for HIAS at the annual
meeting at Hotel Astor. Dele-
gates from about 4,500 labor, re-
ligious and fraternal organiza-
tions supporting HIAS attended
the gathering.
Delegates adopted a resolution
urging the U. S. government to
introduce legislation to liberal-
ize the immigration law clause
by permitting the full use of the
154,000 annual quota, through a
system of pooling unused por-
tions of quotas of any one year
to be utilized that year or dur-
ing the subsequent year for eli-
gible and desirable persons seek-
ing to immigrate to the United
States.
