Presidents and rabbis of all
congregations have been invited
to attend a meeting at 8 p.m.
Monday, March 12, at -the Wood-
ward Jewish Center, to review
current plans for a - city-wide
planning conference of Detroit
Jewish organizations, scheduled
for April 8.
The meeting has been called

Plans Purim Festival

, GOVERNOR G. MENNEN WI'LLIAMS congratulates DAN
LAVEN, who will be honored at the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah pa-
tron's dinner, March 18, at the former Latin Quarter, as ABE
GREEN, chairman of the dinner, looks on.
Final arrangements for the dinner will be made at a brunch-
ton meeting for directors and active workers Sunday morning. A
rapacity audience of 700 is expected at the banquet, to be held
at 3067 E. Grand Blvd. Entertainment will be provided. Several
dignitaries, including Gov. Williams and Mrs. Williams, will attend.

Temple Israel Youngsters Orthodox to Hear
Hold Purim- Masquerade Rabbi Zvi Eisenstadt

Youngsters of the Temple
Israel religious school will ob-
serve Purim March 18, at which
time kindergarteners and mem-
bers of grades 1 and 2 will come
dressed in costumes represent-
ing characters from the Book of
Esther, the Bible and Jewish
history in general.
A film story of Esther and a
Purim play by the stage group
will be presented. Children will
participate in a grand parade,
and will be served homentashen
and other Purim pastries.
A special Purim family Sab-
bath will be held March 23, at
which grades 4 and 5 of the re-
ligious school will form a choir
to sing 'Purim melodies.

Orthodox circles are antici-
pating the arrival of Rabbi Zvi
Eisenstadt, who will be guest
speaker at a mass meeting for
Detroit orthodoxy at 7 p.m.,
Sunday, at the Agudath Israel
Synagogue, 11331 Linwood.
Rabbi Eisenstadt was recently
appointed to head the rabbin-
ate of Tel Aviv on approval
of the Chief Rabbinate of Is-
rael with the sanction of the
Ministry of Religion. He is
known as one of the great Tal-
mudic thinkers of the time, and
is also a noted businessman in
New York.
A guest cantor will render
several selections. The public is
invited.

Maurice Samuel Talks To Shaarey Zedek Men

Maurice Samuel, noted au-
thor, publicist and translator,
Will be presented by the Men's
Club of Cong. Shaarey Zedek at
9 p.m. Tuesday. He will speak
on "Jewry in the World of To-
morrow." Ira Kaufman and
M. B. Lewis, co-chairmen, in-
vite the public.

Purim will be celebrated in
the religious school of Temple
Beth El with special plays and
masquerade parties. The inter-
mediate department masquerade
will be held on Sunday morning,
junior high, March 17; primary
masquerade and high school
parties, March 18.
On March 11 and 18 the inter-
mediate dramatic group will
present "Purim's Children" by
Lillian Freehof. The cast in-
cludes Molly Alexander, Janet
Bartholomew, Judy Castleman,
Andy Dunn, Laural Goldman,
Hope Friedland, Dennis Israel,
Paula Jackson, Dorothy Lazaro,
Robert Rubin, Sally Masserman,
Susan Schechter, Elaine Sef fin-
ger.
Following the play the chil-
dren will march to the Franklin
Memorial Hall in their costumes
for a Shushan fashion parade.
On March 17, the junior high
dramatic group will present
"Shushan Boy" by Seymour Mil-
stone. The cast includes Claire
Ettlinger, Anita Greenstein,
Barbara Desmon, Edith Nolish,
Roberta Masserman, Teddy Rob-
inson, Joel Dreyer, Louis Stern
and Loretta Wisok. Both Purim
plays are under the direction of
MisS Mae Dix.
A Purim Workshop for parents
was conducted by Rabbi _Sidney
Akselrad on Sunday morning,
March 4.

Moshe Kusevitsky Gufst
Cantor at Beth Moses

The world- famous cantor
Moshe Kusevitsky will be the
guest cantor at the Sabbath
morning services, March 24, at
the Beth Moses synagogue, Lin-
wood and Oakman Court.
Kusevitsky has been acclaim-
ed one of the outstanding tenor
voices.
