Dies at '79 at Miami Beach

Services for Harry H. Freed-
man, 79, of 3777 Sturtevant, the
president and founder of Wood-
mere Scrap Iron and Metal Co.,
were held at Lewis Bros. Chapel.
Mr. Freedman, who was a De-
troit resident for 50 years, died
Feb. 24, at Miami Beach. Burial
was in Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
Rabbi Hershman, Rabbi Adler
and Cantor Sonenklar officiated.
He is survived by his wife, Becky;
three sons, Louis, David and
Albert; four daughters, Mrs.
Belle Lotivky, Mrs. Anna Gibbs,

Philadelphia, died Feb. 21, at
age of 72. She is survived by her
husband, Solomon; her daugh-

Sonya Shames. Services were

with interment in Northwest

Hugo Hiemann, German
Jewish Leader, Dies
In New York; Was 91

NEW YORK, (AJP) — One of
the leading civic and political
leaders in Berlin prior to the
Hitler regime died here - this
week at the Home for Aged and
Infirm Hebrews. Hugo Hiemann,
91, a . leading German Social-
Democrat founded Berlin's first
public library.
Hiemann was credited with
assisting in the formation of
Germany's first republic follow-
ing World War I. After the war
and until 1932, he was a mem-
ber of the important ways and
means committee of the Reich-
stag.
Hitler stripped him of his per-
sonal fortune and possessions
and later expelled him from
Germany. Following his expul-
sion from Germany, the Nazis
had removed Hiemann's name
from the library building which
he founded.
That building was destroyed
in World War II by Allied bomb-
ers, but last year a new library
building was named by him. In
addition to his wife, the former
German leader leaves two sons:
A daughter was murdered in the
Auschwitz concentration camp
in Poland.
