Congress, Labor Zionist

1 The American Jewish Con-
- gress, the Poale Zion Organiza-
tion and the Farband Labor
Zionist, Order announce plans
for fuller cooperation between
the three organizations with
common purposes.
Announcement was made in
a joint statement by Rabbi Irv-
,' ing Miller, president of the Am-
erican Jewish Congress, Baruch
Zuckerman, president of the
Poale Zibn Organization, a n d
Meyer Brown, president of Far-
band.
The three Jewish leaders de-
] eared that their organizations
had re-examined their exisiting
I relationships with a view to
achieving more effective co-
operation because of their "deep
awareness of the grave prob-
lems facing American Jewry at
the present time and of further
problems likely to emerge dur-
ing this period of international
tension."
Citing their common concern
with problems affecting Jewish
survival, Rabbi Miller, Mr. Zuck-
erman and Mr. Brown pointed to
the fact that both the American
Jewish Congress and the Labor
Zionist movement are devoted
to strengthening Israel, to pre-
'- _ servation and expansion of Am-
erican democracy, to fighting,
with other liberal forces, all
forms of anti-Semitism a n d
racism, to defense of the status
of Jews in all lands, to deepen-
ing of Jewish knowledge and
culture and to the democratic
organization of the Jewish com-
munity.

Wealthy Young Couple
Learn Hotel Business
The Hard Way in N .Y .
NEW YORK, (AJP)—A young
Israeli couple determined to
,learn the secret to success in
the hotel business are, in Ameri-
ca doing things the hard way.
Beautiful Tuki Kapelner, 20,
works as bath maid at a mid-
town hotel here. Her husband,
Harry, toils in the kitchen of
a snazzy restaurant. Together
they earn an even $54 per week
—just enough to make ends
meet.
Tuki's dad, Eric Braun is
chairman of the Tel Aviv Hotel
Association. Instead of scrub-
bing floors in a hotel, Tuki and
her husband could be guests,
and instead of hours spent in
the kit c h e n, the -Kapelners
might easily be dining at the
better spots here.
But—and there are two "Bs"
in this case—the couple can't
transfer their holdings or even
a part thereof to the United
States with the embargo in Is-
rael. The other "but" simply is
this: the young couple want to
learn how a good hotel operates
—the hard way.
