Bill in CongreSs
Bars Aid to Schools
Practicing Bias

WASHINGTON (AJP)—A bill
Which would bar federal aid to
schools which practice discrim-
ination was introduced in Con-
gress this week by Representa-
tive Isadore Dollinger (D) of
the Bronx, New York. Rep. Dol-
linger said:
"We should be ashamed that

our young people are in many
cases subject to discrimina-
tion, unhappiness, and even
mental disease because of our
failure to uphold the very
principles which we advocate
- to others."
The young congressman also
attacked the quota system in

_medicine and dentistry charging
that bias has prevented stu-
dents—many of them brilliant—
from studying these and other
professions of their choice."
Rep Dollinger also attacked
college fraternities which have
admission requirements that
"members must be white per-
,sons and of full Aryan blood",
Such institutions have no place
in American education and if
we practice the democracy we
preach, we would not a 11 o w
them. to exist.

General Zionists Acquire
Headquarters; Will Provide
Home for Youth, Field Says

Walter L. Field, chairman of
the building committee of the
Zionist Organization of Detroit,
announced this week that the
building on the
southwest c o r-
ner of Linwood
a n d Lawrence
has been pur-
chased and will
be remodeled
and made suit-
able to h o us e
the Detroit
General Zionist
family.
Mr. Field de-
clared that for
many years
local Zionists::.
have been in Walter Field
search of a meeting place for
the Zionist youth of Detroit
whose activities have been
hampered by the lack of suit-
able quarters.
"Now," he stated, "it will be
possible for the Detroit Zion-
ists to render the long-deferred
service to the Young Judaeans
and to the other youth -groups
affiliated with the Zionist Youth
Commission. In order to keep
the Zionist ideal alive, it is
necessary that our educational
program should be extended.
This could not be accomplished
properly without a home. The
acquisition of the L in w o o d-
Lawrence building solves this
problem for us."

Welcome

RABBI JUDAH L.

MAIMON

Minister of Religions in Israel

We rejoice in the opportunity that has been accorded. to us to

welcome to our community the distinguished Israel leader and to
extend to him our humble blessings for the unselfish services he has

rendered to our people in time of stress and for his continued devo-

tion to Israel and to the highest ideals enunciated by our traditions.

Rabbi Maimon represents the courageous pioneers who re-

fused to bow their knees to false gods and to tyrannical rulers. He

is the very embodiment of our faith in our Eternal Ruler,, in the Peo-

ple Israel, in ourselves, in our faith and in our ideals.

We join in paying tribute to this distinguished leader.

We are privileged to be hosts to Rabbi Maimon in behalf of

the great cause of Mizrachi and we wish him success in our common
