Congress Is Asked to Probe
Freeing of Nazi War Criminals

WASHINGTON, (JTA) — Rep.
Isidore Dollinger asked Congress
to investigate the recent grant-
ing of clemency to Nazi war
criminals in the U.S. zone of
Germany.

"These reprieves," Rep. Dol-
linger said, "granted to per-
sons who committed the worst
crimes against humanity in
all history, have struck a
death blow at the very found-
ations of our American sys-
tem of justice and have
brought down upon us the
derision and contempt of the
world."

Rep. Dollinger said:

"How dare they turn loose
on civilization that loyal Hit-
ler ally, Alfred Krupp, the
munitions king; who helped
plan world conquest?
"Four former Nazi generals,
thanks to us, are once again
free to plot against democ-
racy and to advance the cause
of Naziism. Others were for-
given for their monstrous mas-
sacre of American prisoners
at Malmedy. Surely the par-
ents and relatives of those
massacred must be aghast at
our unpardonable action."

Gen. Thomas Hand y, U.S.
commander in Europe, last week
reduced the prison sentences of
nine more German war crimin-
als, who operated the Flossen-
burg concentration camp.
It followed a commutation of
almost 100 war crime sentences
by U.S. High Commissioner Mc-
Cloy including that of Alfred
Krupp, whose $500 million in
property was restored to him.
In the latest commutation,
Ludwig Buddensieg, sentenced
to life, was freed, as was Hans
Lipinski, who was serving a
10-year term.

"We are still dealing," he
lclared, "with a people who
are undemocratic and unre-
pentent, who consider them-
selves unfortunate and whose
chief objective at present is to
figure out the winning side
and get on it."

Warns of Dangers

P A R I S, (JTA; — "Germany
looks like it is becoming a great
military power once more and
may become the center of a new
wave of anti-Semitism," Dr. Na-
hum Goldmann declared at the
opening of the United Israel Ap-
peal.
He warned that Jews were "on
the edge of a volcano," and must
make their utmost efforts to
save endangered communities
before it is too late. Dr. Gold-
mann stressed that Israel has
spent 25 percent more on immi-
gration than it has received
from all foreign funds com-
bined.
