The adult stage offers Richard

while the children's theater will
present Conrad Seiler's new

Britain to Release
Sterling Balances

LONDON—(JTA) — An agree-
ment for the release of the .en-
tire sterling balance owed Israel
by Britain within two years was
signed at the British Treasury
by representatives of the British
and Israel governments.
The agreement allows Israel
to draw 7,000,000 pounds in 1951
and 6,700,000 in 1952. If needed,
Israel may draw in 1951 another
two million pounds against the
1952 account.
Terming the agreement satis-
factory to both sides, David
Horowitz, director of Israel's
Ministry of Finance who . headed
the Israel delegation during the
negotiations, revealed that the
pact also provides for the trans-
fer of a maximum of 2,250,000
pounds of charitable funds. All
funds released will be used for
purchases throughout the ster-
ling area and in other "soft
currency" areas.
Competent observers point out
that in view of the fact that
no monthly release quotas are
stipulated in the agreement. Is-
rael may draw the entire bal-
ance not later than January,
1952, if it chdbses to do so.

meet in Chicago, Sunday, Feb.
4, at the Sheraton Hotel, for a
mid-west leadership conference
of the United Jewish Appeal, it

Purpose of the

overseas for the Joint Distribu-
tion Committee, will discuss the
"deadline dangers and impend-
i n g emergencies" confronting
Jews who must emigrate to
Israel froapRomania, Iraq, Tii-
nisia, Iran and other countries.
Jewish leaders from communi-
ties in Colorado, Illinois, In-
diana, Kentucky, Michigan,
Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska,
North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma,
South Dakota and Wisconsin are
expected to attend the United
Jewish Appeal Mid-West Leader-
ship Conference.

Noted National Leaders at
Manischewitz Bar Mitzvah

Perpetuation of a great fam-
ily - tradition in . America was
entrusted to a fourth genera-
tion when David Mitchell Manis-
chewitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.
Beryl Manischewitz, was honor-
ed at a Bar Mitzvah Jan. 13 in
Jersey City.
Mr. Manischewitz is chairman
of the board of the . matzo bak-
ing firm founded by his grand-
father, Rabbi Dov Ber Manis-
chewitz.
The event was climaxed on
Sunday afternoon by a dinner
at the Savoy Plaza Hotel in
New York, which was graced by
the presence of leading Ortho-
dox Rabbis and people promi-
nent in public life. Among those
who attended were Rabbi Elie-
zer Silver of Cincinnati, Rabbi
Leo Jung of New York,Rabbis
Isaac Halevi Siegel of Jersey
City, and Menachem M. Hock-
stein, Judge Joseph M. Pros-
kauer, and Dr. Reuben Finkel-
stein, a grandfather of the Bar
Mitzvah, who was toastmaster
at the dinner. Cantor David
Putterman officiated.
