Raskin's

LISTENING

IN HIS RECENT speech here,
on the "Communist Threat," Dr.
Nathan Reich exploded a favor;
ite myth created by. the Soviet
propaganda machine . . . about
the "cultural autonomy" which
rulers of that land guarantee
the Jewish citizens . . . "It
meant," said Dr. Reich, "that the
Jews were permitted to praise
Stalin in Yiddish, not too unlike
the way an advertising agency
praises a product, .with the ex-
ception that it was impossible to
switch accounts."

THE MERGER OF Hy and Sol
Lewis into the top window-trim-
ming team in town has local
merchants asking if there are
any more brothers in the fam-
ily . . . Other brother, Irving,„ is
proficient only at trimming the
musical scales, since he is a
band leader . Hy and Sol are
so full of ideas that they may
soon invade the interior decor-
ating field . . . If so, those al-
ready in the business had better
watch out . . . the boys are
really dynamite!

CONDOLENCES TO . .. wife,
Sylvia, and the family of Dave
Markel, prominent clothing man
around town . . whose recent
passing at 43 was a shock to
everyone who knew Dave or ever
came in contact with him
He was that kind of a fellow . .
a swell guy . . . with a radiant
personality and ever - flowing
sense of friendship . . . The loss
is a great on/e to the Jewish
community.

sidered tops in the field.

PATIENT CAME TO Dr. Mil-
ton W. White and asked him to
look at his ankle . . After a
careful examination, Milt asked
him how long he had been walk-
ing around with his ankle in
such condition . . The fellow
said about two weeks . .. Milt
showed amazement as to how he
could get around with an ankle
that was broken in two places.
• . • and asked the patient why
he didn't come to him immedi-
ately ... "Well doc," said the in-
jured gent, "you see, every time
I say something is wrong with
me, my wife' vows I'll have to
stop smoking."

PHIL MESSENGER cherishes
the first letter he sent home af-
ter being in the army a week
during the last war ... In it, he
was critical of the camp, his fel-
l° 7 rookies, and the officers . .
but most of all, he didn't like
the food . . . "The rations aren't
fit to 'eat, they are garbage that
I Wouldn't feed to the dogs, and
sueh small portions."

AT A RECENT Oneg Shabbat
of the Labor Zionist Organiza-
tion, Harold Kempner, assistant
director of Histadrut, was talk-
ing to a young girl whom he
recognized as meeting where she
worked as a laboratory techni-
cian . . . "You know," said Har-
old, "I always thought you were
a shikse." . . . Then, Dena Gold-
smith, standing nearby, said,
"She is!" ... Rita Adamcheck is
the only non-Jewish member of
local LZOA.

CONGRATULATIONS . . to

ful store . . . and the boys de-
serve all the credit in the world
for their courage and initiative
in taking advantage of an op-
portunity to expand ... We wish
