The Sisterhood of Cong. Beth
Judah of Logan has decided
not to sponsor card parties
or any other games of
chance, in compliance with a
ruling of the Philadelphia
Board of Rabbis banning all
games of chance in syna-
gogues in this city.
The Sisterhciod decided in-
stead to launch a series of
Sabbath afternoon meetings
during which discussions of
Jewish cultural and religious
life will be led by Rabbi Jere-
miah Cohen, president of the
Philadelphia Board of Rabbis.

Farmers Demand Citrus
Subsidies, Else They
Will End Harvesting

TEL AVIV—The Farmers' As-
sociation here Tuesday present-
ed the Israel government with
an ultimatum threatening to
halt harvesting of the citrus
fruit crop throughout, the coun-
try immediately unless the gov-
ernment grants them subsidies.
The growers seek compensa-
tion of approximately $10,000,-
000 to cover losses this season
suffered in connection with the
sale of citrus products abroad.
These losses, . the Farmers As-
sociation asserts, are due to the
intensive competition in foreign
markets.

At the annual dinner meeting

Society of Cong. Beth Abraham,
at 8:30 p.m.;' Saturday, Rabbi
Joseph Thumin will conclude a
tractate of the Mishna, and
Rabbi Israel Halpern will speak.
Rabbi Halpern announced
that 'final sessions of the Re-
ligious school for 1950 will be
held at 10 a.m., Sunday, re-
suming again Jan. 7. The cur-
rent term will end Jan. 21, the
second portion to begin Jan. 28.
Courses in Jewish history, cus-
toms and ceremonies, music,
arts and crafts are taught. Chil-
dren from kindergarten through
grade eight are accepted.

Children of the United Jewish
Folk Schools celebrated Hanuk-
ah last Thursday with a page-
ant at the Jewish Community
Center auditorium.
The program depicted the
fight of the Maccabees and the
pioneers of Israel today. Latkes,
prepared by parents' committee,
were 'served, and Hanukah pres-
ents distributed. Climax of the
celebration was the mass light-
ing • of Hanukah candles, fol-:
lowed by Hanukah plays in He-
brew and in Yiddish.
