United Jewish Charities 50th
:anniversary dinner Tuesday
night at the Book-Cadillac to
reminisce over the past and
.have a look at the future of
:organized Jewish social service.
Judge Charles C. Simons, of
the United States Court of Ap-
peals, who was guest speaker,
said he remembered the Sunday
Morning meetings that were
held at his father's house.

"They (the Charities) were a
little, primitive group in those
days, organized on a small
basis to help individuals. It
was inevitable that it should
give way to a better organized
group.”

He recalled a dispute over
.whether a pensioner should re-
ceive $3 or $5 in financial aid,
and told how at the turn of the
century it was a petty thing
such as this that led the late
Rabbi Leo Franklin to form
UJC.

World Zionist Congress
Slated To Meet Next July

NEW YORK—The 1951 World
Zionist Congress has been set
for the first half of July, it was
announced at New York head-
quarters of the Jewish Agency.
Announcement of the date
was made by Berl Locker, chair-
man of the Jerusalem Section
of the Jewish Agency and Dr.
Nahum Goldmann, chairman of
the American Section, reporting
on decisions reached during the
two-week plenary session of the
Jewish Agency Executive.
The exact date of the Con-
gress will be determined by the
availability of the Congress Hall
now under construction in Jeru-
salem.
More than 500 iZonist leaders
of all parties from every area of
the world—including 120 from
the United States—are expected.

Plans Complete for Israel Bond
Issue; Montor to Be in Charge

NEW YORK, - (JTA)—Active
Preparations are under way for
launching in the United States
a bond issue of the government
of Israel, Eliezer Kaplan, Israel
finance Minister, announced at
a press conference. Mr. Kaplan
also stated that Henry Montor
had been selected by Israel to
handle the floating of the bond
issue.
The Minister emphasized that

for "courageous participation in
the underground fight" during
