Arab Claims Boomerang als Security
Council Upholds Israel in UN Dispute
LAKE SUCCESS, •• (ISI) — The
Security Council rebuffed the
efforts of Jordan and Egypt to
charge Israel with armistice vio-
lations.
The United States, the United
Kingdom and France joined in
a resolution upholding Israel's
contention that t h e Security
Council was not the proper
forum for such complaints.
The action came after six
meetings, during which the
Arab states vainly sought to
substantiate their charges while
Israel contended that the Arab
states were seeking to exploit
the Security Council for propa-
ganda. purposes.
But in one important aspect
the .Arab venture boomeranged,
for major An w e r s associated
themselves with Israel's coun-
tercharge that Egypt's blockade
of the Suez Canal was illegal.
The resolution took note of
Israel's agreement to withdraw
from Bir Qattar.
Ambassador Abba Eban sub-
mitted a resolution calling upon
the Government of Egypt to re-
move restrictions against Suez
shipping, to abandon its block-
