Women's Societies Join Emergency
Drive for $50 Million in UJA Funds

A call to American Jewish
women "to participate actively"
in the emergency campaign to
make $50,000,000 in cash avail-
able to the United Jewish Ap-
peal before the end of 1950 was
issued by representatives of ten
leading national Jewish wom-
en's organizations at a special
meeting at UJA headquarters in
New York.
The national Jewish women's
organizations which agreed to
make their membership avail-
able to the emergency campaign
—the first ever held in the 12-
year history of the United Jew-
ish Appeal — -were Hadassah;
Mizrachi Women's O r g a n i z a-
tion; National Council of Jewish
Women; National Federation of
Temple Sisterhoods; National
Women's League of United Sy-
nagogues; Pioneer Women's
Labor Zionist Organization;
Women's Division, Union of Or-
thodox Jewish Congregations;
Women's American ORT; Worn-.
en's Branch, American Jewish
Congress; and Women's Grand
Lodge, Bnai Brith.
To avoid a desperate financial
situation for Israel in dealing,
with continued large-scale im-
migration, t h e United Jewish
Appeal has issued an emergency
call to more than 5,000 com-
munities urging them to adopt
the following five-point program
in the emergency drive for the
collection of $50,000,000 in cash
by the end of December:
1. Payment of outstanding
pledges of this and previous
years' campaigns, requiring
the most intensive cash col-
tion effort within each city;
2. Cash payments on account
of forthcoming 1951 pled-
ges;
