LISTENING
EDDIE CANTOR was in great
form when he met the press, be-
fore doing his one man show,
"Forty Years on Broadway" for
the Detroit Women of Bnai Brith
at Masonic Temple . . . He criti-
cized "love - blinded mothers"
who scrape their last dimes and
pennies together to give their
kiddies a crack at stardom and
glory . .. "They come to my
house, total strangers, from all
over the country, ring the bell,
and when I answer they point
to junior or sister and beam,
`Isn't she lovely?' . . . After six
months, they go home disgusted,
depressed and financially de-
flated, mad at the world because
Producer Dore Schary didn't
drop everything to give the kid
a chance."

FINDING A WALLET contain-
ing $72, Evelyn Meyers returned
it to the address given on the
• driver's license . . . A lady an-
swered the door, thanked Evelyn
for the wallet, and gave her a
dollar "to buy something nice
with." . • . Now Evelyn is mull-
ing over the saying about hon-
esty being the best policy . . .
since it cost her over $3 in cab
fares to return the lost wallet.

COMMUNITY REMARK . . .
Asked if it was true that she was
going to be married soon, the
lass at the Jewish Center on
Woodward replied, "No, but I'm
very grateful for the rumor."
* *
TALL TOWERS may be dis-
banded . . . because of lack of
r.embership cooperation . . . It
all depends on attendance at
the group's coming cocktail
party, Dec. 2 at the home of
Sonia Warshawsky, 17141 Cher-
rylawn . . . open to all fellows 6
feet or over, and gals reaching
5'7" . . . Tall Towers has been in
existence four years and has
held a good name in the com-
munity . . . Its disbandment
would be a sad loss.

GOING ON A week-end trip to
'Chicago, Bernice Meldman in-
sisted on taking practically her
entire wardrobe . . . Her hus-
band, Max Meldman, staggering
under the load as they entered
the Michigan Central Station,
remarked, "I wish that we'd
brought the piano" . .. to which
Bernice coldly replied, "Don't be
funny." . . Max gave the bags
to a porter and explained, "I'm
not trying to be funny. I left
the tickets on it."

DONOR LUNCHEON of Sister-
hood of Beth Aaron Synagogue
is slated for Dec. 5, at Bel-Aire.
. . , Week before, Nov. 29, the
group holds a donor rally at the
synagogue . . . with Mickey and
Sammy Woolf and Max Sosin to
be on hand for the fun-loaded
festivities ... Admission will be
free.

. . and to try and get the
Hampton aggregation to guest
star the evening's festivities .. .
Hampton's answer was a quick
"Yes" as he told of even another
idea to raise moray by offering
his services . . . Hampton played
the inaugural ball for president
Truman . . . and his was the
band that was featured at Madi-
son Square Garden to celebrate
the new state of Israel.

DISA 'N DATA . .. Two corn-
inunity-ites have opened the
new TV Bar-B-Q on Seven Mile
Rd. and Greenfield ... Al Rosen-
berg and school teacher Al Ko-
fender are the boys behind it ...
Dorothy Finkell and Don Weis-
man are engaged . . . Sylvia Ru-
bin, at 19, is the youngest assist-
ant buyer ever to hold that po-
sition at Klines, downtown . . .
She was recently given this vast
promotion following part-time
service as a salesgirl . . . Mark
Fischer, the terrific drummer
with Sammy Mandel's musical
outfit at Club Main Street,
spends his days selling Stude-
bakers for George Motor Sales,
Inc., in Hamtramck . . • Mark
owns a 1924 Studebaker which
was put on the floor at last
week's grand opening and is
creating a sensation with on-
lookers who compare it with the
1951 model . . . and boy, what a
difference!

student at UCLA . . . Harry's
daughter is still a patient at the
Elizabeth Kenny Polio Center.

can only hope for the best.
