JNF Jubilee
Conference to Hear.
Of Israel Projects

A new water supply for Jeru-
salem has been made available
through operations conducted
by the Jewish National Fund in
the Judean Hills, according to
Elias M. Epstein, overseas direc-
tor of the JNF, who arrived in
New York from Israel. This new
supply renders Jerusalem inde-
pendent of water sources in
Arab-controlled areas.
Using an American Hopper
Borer which went down to a
depth of 300 meters at Kfar
Uriah about ten miles from
J e r u s a l e m, the organization
found sweet water in quantities
of 300 cubic meters per hour,
Epstein declared. The present
water supply of Jeruslaem is be-
ing drawn from near Givat
Brenner, more than twenty
miles from the City.
Epstein, who is here to confer
with American leaders on JNF
plans for its coming Jubilee
Year (the JNF was established
in 1901) also revealed that the
largest reclamation project in
Israel, drainage of the Huleh
Basin in Galilee, where 40,000
dunams (10,000 acres) are under
water, has been initiated by
JNF.
Both the Jerusalem water
project and Huleh reclamation
enterprises will be highlighted,
with other achievements, at the
Jubilee Conference in Washing-
ton, Dec. 22, under the chair-
manship of Dr. Harris J. Levine,
JNF president.
The conference will be at-
tended by Dr. Abraham Granott,
head of the world board of di-
rectors of the fund in Jeru-
salem, who is coming to this
country at the special invitation
of the golden jubilee commit-
tee of which Dr. Israel Gold-
stein is national chairman.

Urge Mexico Zionists
To Aid Israel's Burden

MEXICO CITY, (JTA) -Zion-
ists in Mexico were urged to
"throw in every ounce of energy
to help carry Israel's staggering
burdens" in an address delivered
by Dr. Emanuel Neumann at a
meeting held by the Zionist or-
ganizations of Mexico.
Dr. Neumann charged that Is-
rael's economic difficulties,
largely due to the tremendous
immigration, have been aggra-
vated by "the perpetuation of
policies on the part of the gov-
ernment which tended to dis-
courage private capital" as well
as by "a policy which tends to
weaken organized Zionism" in
countries outside of Israel.
The re-shuffle of the Israel
Cabinet and the appointment of
a non-Socialist Minister for
Trade and Industry cannot be
considered as "sufficiently far-
reaching changes," Dr. Neumann
said. "One obvious lesson of the
Cabinet crisis is the urgent need
of a strong liberal center party
such as could be provided by a
union of all General Zionists in
Israel," he added. "General
Zionists the world over must
urge and demand the healing of
the breach caused by the forma-
tion of the Progressive Party."

Mass. Rules Jewish Couple
May Adopt Non-Jewish Child

BOSTON, (JTA) - The Mas-

ish couple from adopting a non-
Jewish child. The case involved
a Jewish couple from Brooklyn,
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Krakow,
who wished to adopt Stephen
Harrington, age two, of Glou-
