Beth El, Israel Join Interfaith
Community Thanksgiving Service

The 49th Annual Interdenom-
inational Community Thanks-
giving Service will be held in
the Auditorium of the Detroit
Institute of Arts on Thursday,
Nov. 23, at 10:30 a. m.
Rabbi Morton M. Berman of
Temple Isaiah Israel, Chicago,
will be the guest preacher.
The following churches and

`Self-Imposed Draft'
Of Chaplain's Adopted

A "self-imposed draft" to
meet the shortage of Jewish
chaplains in the armed forces
was adopted by the Rabbinic
Alumni of Yeshiva University at
an all-day conference at the
University, Amsterdam Ave. and
186 St., New York. The proposed
draft wit affect the 500 gradu-
ates of the University's Rabbi
Isaac Elchanan Theological
Seminary now serving in the
rabbinate in 36 states.

Traditional Way
For Thanksgivin

Four Detroit synagogues are
continuing this year with tra-
ditional Thanksgiving Day serv-
ices Thursday, Nov. 23.
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, Chicago
Blvd. at Lawton, has planned an
hour service beginning at 11 a.m.
Rabbi Morris Adler will offici-
ate and preach a sermon on
"Think and Thank."
The synagogue choir with
Cantor J. H. Sonenklar will par-
ticipate under the direction of
Daniel Frohman. The public is
welcome to the service, which
will conclude at 12:05 p.m.
Cong. Bnai David, Elmhurst
at 14th, will hold brief special
Thanksgiving services for the
tenth consecutive year, com-
mencing at 11 a.m. Rabbi Joshua
S. Sperka will pr each on
"Thanks for Thanksgiving."
A dramatization of Thanks-
giving will be given by members
of the Religious School, Boy
Scout Troop, and the Girl Scout
Troops.
Cantor Hyman J. Adler will
chant appropriate holiday songs.
The public is invited.
Cong. Bnai Moshe, Dexter at
Lawrence invites the public to
its 11 a.m. service at which Rab-
bi Moses Lehrman will deliver
a sermon entitled "Grateful for
the Greater Things." Cantor Da-
vid Katzman will chant the

liver a brief sermon entitled
"Gratefully Yours," at the
Thanksgiving service of North-
west Hebrew Cong., Curtis at
Santa Rosa, beginning at 11 a.m.
