Federation Staffs
Form Study Group,
Organize Institute

Professional staff members
from agencies of the. Jewish Wel-
fare Federation have formed
study groups in preparation, for
the In-Service Training Institute
to be held in January and -Feb-
ruary, Harold Silver, chairman
of. the Institute and executive
director of Jewish Social Service
Bureau, announced.
Each of the three study groups
will be concerned with a differ-
ent phase of organized Jewish
community service. Eva Ravnit-
zky of North End Clinic and
Samuel Marcus of . 12th St. Coun-
cil Center are cochairmen of
the group whose topic' is "Role
of the Jewish Professional Work-
er in Communal Servi6e." This
group will hold its first, meeting
at the home of William Avrunin,
associate director of Federation,
at 8 p.m. next Monday. It will
hold successive. meetings on Nov.
27 and Dec. 11.
A group discussing "Jewish
Community .Organization," un-
der the chairmanship of Frank
Loewenberg of. 12th St. Council
Center will meeting Monday,
Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. at the above
Center, where subsequent meet-
ings on Nov. 27 and Dec. 11 and
25 will be held.
Rachel Manela is chairman
and Saul Koenigsberg secretary,
both of Jewish Social Service
Bureau, for the third study
group which will deal with "The
Jewish Component in Jewish
Communal Service." Its first
meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m.
next Monday, at Silver's home.
Other meetings for this group
will be held Nov. 27 and Dec. 11.

Lipsky to Chair Annual
Histadruth Ivrith Dinner

Louis Lipsky, chairman of the
American Zionist Council, has
been named chairman of the
annual Hanukah dinner spon-
sored by the Hebrew Language
and Culture Association—Hista-
druth Ivrith of America—which
is marking its 35th year of ac-
tivity in this country, Samuel
J. Borowsky, persident, an-
nounced. The dinner, at Hotel
Astor, New York, Dec. 2, will
launch a campaign to _raise
$500,000 for the organization's
overall program of stimulating
widespread interest in Hebrew
language and culture among
American Jewry.
