Drive for Hospital Fund

Simultaneous with acceptance of bids for the construction

of the Jewish Hospital, a group of Jewish leaders have started

solicitations for funds to implement the needs of the Greater
Detroit Hospital Fund.
Subject to the successful completion of the current
drive, the Jewish Hospital will receive $2,500,000 from the
city-wide fund.
Dr. Charles F. Wilinsky of Boston will address the Detroit
Jewish Hospital Association's luncheon meeting Monday at

Yanks Buried in Israel:

The Rabbi
of Israel's Navy reads .pra\rers over the remains of two
American-Jewish soldiers killed by the Japanese in World
- ,War II. Their remains were buried in the Jewish state
- upon the request of their parents.

JERUSALEM—Premier David Ben-Gurion said Tuesday that his new
cabinet would "strive for intensification of production" through Pinhas Lubiani-
ker, agriculture Minister, and Yaacov Geri, industry minister.

Mr. Ben-Gurion, speaking at a reception for a seven-member delegation of
the South African Jewish press now visiting Israel, stressed. that his new cabinet
does not "represent a deviation in policy."

Premier Ben-Gurion also lauded the South Africans who fought in Israel's armed
forces and urged the delegation to convey "Israel's tribute" to South African Jewry. He
also appealed to Jews in tie British Dominion to send their "youths and skilled and expert
workers to Israel," adding that they are "more important than money." --The delegation
.made a flying visit to Eilat, Israel's southernmost outpost, on Monday.
Premier Ben-Gurion on Tuesday sent a congratulatory cable to Soviet Premier Josef
Stalin on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Qctober revolution. The message
said
On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the great October revolution, pray ac-
cept on behalf of the state of Israel and on my own behalf our best wishes to you per-
sonally and to the Soviet government and all its peoples. Our people, building its historic
homeland, remembers well the part played by the Soviet Union in defeating the Nazi '
enemy as well as its contribution towards the establishment of the state of Israel. We
send to the peoples of the USSR our sincere wishes for economic and cultural prosperi-
ty, happiness and permanent peace."
Basic preparations are being made for negotiations with the U. S. Government for
securing American financial aid for Israel. it was reported Tuesday at a meeting of the
Israel cabinet. The meeting heard a report given by Mrs. Golda Myerson, labor minister,
on her recent visit to the -United States and on the National Planning Conference for Israel
and Jewish Rehabilitation, which took place in Washington Oct. 27-29.
Mrs. MyerSon reported that the conference was attended by representatives . of all
Zionist and Non-Zionist groups in the United States, except the American' Council for
Judaism and Communists. She said that arrangements are being made in the United
States for the sale of Israel bonds and emphasized that the conference decided.to expand
the activities of the United Jewish Appeal.
(At the session of the Jewish Agency which opened in New York Tuesday, 14
members of the Jerusalem Section joined in discussion of plans for implementation of
the four-point,program adopted at the National Planning Conference in Washington.
Dr. Nahum Goldmann and Berl Locker will alternate as presiding officers of the 10-
day session. Benjamin Browdy, president of the Zionist Organization of America,
is non-voting participant.)

Annual JNF Conference Sunday

Nearly 200 organizations have selected delegates to the annual con-
ference of the Jewish National Fund, to be held Sunday at the Fort
Wayne Hotel, Cats and Temple. Guest speakers include Victor Reuther,
labor leader; Elihu D. Stone of Boston, Mordecai Rudensky of New
York and Congressman John D. Dingell, who will be presented with a
Golden Book certificate.

First Cup of Cocoa:

These children from Ro-
mania, recently arrived in Israel, enjoy for the first time a cup of hot
cocoa. They came to Israel ragged and sickly after a rugged month-
long journey with their parents, crossing frontiers illegally. They are
now happy and rested in Israel.
