Tiger in Israel Zoo
After UN Dispute

LAKE SUCCESS - Israel and
Jordan and the United Nations
co-operated in moving a Jeru-
salem zoo to a new headquarters
after unsuccessful attempts to
solve the problem whether a
lion and a tiger in the zoo
should eat Israeli or Arab meat.
The zoo is an Israeli-held is-
land of land in the portion of
Jerusalem controlled by Jordan.
Donkey meat has been the
diet of the lion and tiger. But
Israel and Jordan were unable
to agree whether Israeli donkeys
could pass through Jordan or
Israeli money could be used to
buy Jordan donkeys, Israel, Jor-
dan and the UN agreed today
that the zoo could be moved to
the Israeli-controlled part of
Jerusalem.

Simon-Schuster Issue
2 New Children's Books

Simon and Schuster (1230 6th
Ave., New York 20), pioneer pub-
lishers of unique children's
books which are sensational not
only for their contents but even
more so for the novel formats of
their works, have just issued two
new attractive juveniles.
"The Golden Circus" by Kath-
ryn Jackson, with pictures by
Alice and Martin Provensen, is
another book with touch-me
pages which the youngsters can
touch and feel the coats of the
animals. This • "Fuzzy Golden
Book" is a jolly tale of a circus,
the animals in it, the clowns,
the jolly men. You can feel the
skins and furs of the horses, ele-
phants, lions. It is like a living
act.
The other new Simon-Schus-
ter product is "Pirates, Ships
and Sailors" by Kathryn and
Byron Jackson, with pictures by
Gustaf Tenggren. Cowboy, In-
dian and farm stories are in-
cluded in the 100 pages of illus-
trated text. The lure of sea-
sailing is felt with a naturalness
that will thrill the youngsters
There are, in this "Giant Book,"
31 stories, 11 rhymes, riddles
and songs.

Good Story for Youth
About Newly-Rich Girl

Nancy Paschal's "Sylvan
City," illustrated by Dorothy
Bayley Morse, published by Vik-
ing, is the type of story that
will keep the young reader of.
12 to 15 glued to the pages of
this well-written book.
It is a story with a moral and
with an adventure. Callie is
sent to a private school by a
grandmother who had had no
education and who was deter-
mined that granddaughter must
acquire it. The family struck oil
on its farm and there was plenty
of money to provide the desired
schooling.
Callie had her trouble s.
The clothes she wore, her
ways, were not what the girls
liked in her new environment.
But she had spunk and stuck it
through. She became attractive
to the boys and that made the
girls more amenable to her.
The result is that the story ends
with good news-and in its en-
tirety it is good reading. •

'Rocky Point Campers':
Illustrated Youth Book

Those who enjoy camping or
like stories about camps, swim-
ming, 'campfires, sleeping in
tents, will enjoy "Rocky Point
Campers" which was written
and illustrated by Jane Rietveld,
A Wisconsin camp site is the
background for this charming
story about an entire family
that shared duties.of building a
fire, cooking, fetching 'water,
keeping the • earrip site neat-at
the same time taking advantage
of all the fun that goes with
camping..
The author uses the site de-
Scribed for her own camping
ground. She writes out of per-
sonal knOwledge of the plot she
•has. woven. Her pictures and

bier • stbry are ably " linked into"
good "-hook.
