Elect Louisiana Rabbi

Presidents of 67 landsmans-
haften have been invited to at-
tend a planned meeting 10:30
am. Sunday, Nov. 5, at the
Dexter-Davison branch of the
Jewish Center, to discuss com-
munal problems facing Detroit
Jewry.
The presidents will constitute
a Planning Committee on Com-
munity Services for Landsmans-
haften Organizations, under the
chairmanship of Alex Belkin
and Leon Kay.
"The enthusiasm with which
the idea was, greeted by the
landsmanschaft leaders," Belkin
and Kay said, "indicates that
such a discussion of community
issues has long been desired by

Shreveport, La., has • been
elected National Chaplain of
the American Legion at its
convention here. Rabbi Lef-
kowitz, who was unopposed
for the office, was an Army
chaplain in the last war and
served as Louisiana Depart-

'Honor 2,200 Jews Killed
In Nazi Death Camps
ROME (JTA)—A memorial
service honoring 2,200 Jews from
this city who were deported in
1943 to Nazi death camps in the
East was held at the Great Syn-
agogue here. Participants in the
service included Shlomo Ginas-
sar, Israel Minister to Italy, and
Prof. Ugo Della Seta, - who con-
ducted the service.

mission board on charges of or-
dering news broadcasts on the
station slanted in an anti-Se-

The new programs are spon-

ence of Christians arid Jews.

hospital, which for 37 years has
specialized as a tuberculosis in-
stitute. •
The Detroit Business Men's
Group, headed by Nathan R.
Epstein, has been an important
source of support for the insti-
tute from this area. Ben Gold-
berg, secretary and chairman of
the 1950-51 fund drive has set
a $50,000 goal.
Presentation o f "Borscht-
capades" is expected to net .$10,-
000 of the group's goal. Albert
Fruman chairs this project and
the headline cast includes such
stage and radio stars as Mickey
Katz, Joel Grey, Jackie Hilliard,
