Education Month Launched;
Plan Radio, Other Programs

brey Goldman and Jacob Kell-
man as co-chairmen and Ruben
Issacs in charge of public rela-
tions, 24th annual Education
month of the United Hebrew
Schools was launched at a
meeting at the Rose :Sittig
Cohen Bldg.
Bernard Isaacs, superintend-
ent, and Albert Elazar, associate
superintendent of the schools,
outlined the new programs in-
troduced in the local education-
al- system and the activities of
the College of Jewish Studies-
Midrasha— to the gathering of
leaders and educators. who
pledged their efforts. during
Education Month.
As in previous yearS, the
plans of the Education Month
committee are to inform the
community on the objectives of
the schools and to strive to en-
courage the enrollment • of larger
number of children in all avail-
able classes.

tributions made by the state of
Israel to the free way of life
by its support of United Nations
decisiOns to repel aggression in
Korea.
Jackson J. Holtz of Boston, re-
tiring JWV national command-
er, noted that "while the Ameri-
can Jewish community will,. as -
always in the past, meet the
frill share of its responsibilities
to our own country, additional
efforts will have to be made to
help the needs of Israel."
. Messages from President Tru-
man and ranking U.S. military
leaders praised Jewish contribu-
tions to America's security. Mr.
Truman called for "sacrifices by
everyone to curb Communist
aggression."
General of the Army Omar N.
Bradley lauded the "accomplish-
ments of the Jewish War Veter-
ans" and spoke of the need for
"Americans to remain firm in
support of the fundamentals of
our free system."

Daniel Jeremy Silver, the son
of Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, will
speak at a meeting of the Dan-
iel Frisch Chapter, ZOD, Thurs-
day at Cong. Bnai Moshe. The

Miss Sergio, a naturalized 1
AMerican 'citizen, was born. in
Italy, the daughter of Baron
Sergio and an American moth-
er.
In 1933, at the invitation of
Mussolini and upon the advice
of Marconi, she became Europe's
first woman radio commentator,
but rebelled at Fascist practices
and escaped to the United
States.
American radio welcomed
her as the "Golden Voice of
Rome" and gave her a variety
of assignments, ranging from
opera commentaries over NBC to
newscasting and news analyses
over the 'ABC -network, which
earned her such honors as the
cross of the Legion of Honor of
France. •
Dinner will be followed by
dancing to the music of Phil
Brestoff's orchestra, with songs
by Dee Parker.
Mrs. Milton Mahler, Mrs. Nor-
man Rom and Mrs. Louis Glasier
head the Honor Roll affair, with
Mrs. Frank Wetsman in charge
of seating arrangements. Res-
ervations are being taken by
Honor Roll workers and by the
