Detroit Federation's Director Declares in Address in
Kansas City That Fund-Raising Will Be Limited to
Contributions; Others Must Sell Israel Bonds

Isidore Sobeloff, Detroit Jewish Welfare Federation's
director, who is generally considered as the leading interpre-
ter of the ideology of the Council of Federations and Wel-
fare Funds, has made an important statement which may
serve as a declaration of policy of the Federations in mat-

Israel Certain to Overcome Its
Difficulties, Movie Magnate Says

Yakov Davidon, of Tel Aviv,
Israel movie magnate, who was
the guest in Detroit for a week
of Mr. and Mrs. Jadob Savin of
3736 Fullerton, stated emphati-
cally that the present economic
difficulties in Israel represent a
transition period and that the
people of Israel are determined
to conquer the current difficul-
ties as they had those of the
past.
"We had harder times before,"
he said. "There were times when
—in my experiences of 28 years
residence in Palestine — there
was starvation in the land. No
one starves now. We have a de-
pression, occasioned by the large
influx of our fellow-Jews, but
we shall surely overcome it."
What message does he have
for the Jews of America? Only
this: "Do as much as we do in
Israel, no more, and the ob-

jective of building Israel will be
achieved. We don't ask that you
give up your lives, as we are
prepared to do. But we ask for
cooperation in bringing in the
hundreds of thousands of new
settlers. If you do as much as
we do oh this score, you'll help
fully complete the job."
Here with his wife, Shoshana,
and 12-year-old daughter Dania
who loves music and composes
songs, Mr. Davidon visited local
plants and arranged to secure
American films for his two the-
aters in Tel Aviv—Gan Rina
and Bet Am—and one in Haifa,
MAY, a named composed of the
initials of the Hebrew words Me-
dinat Aretz Israel. He said that
most films from this country
now have Hebrew sub-titles and
that in due time all films will
have them.
