Yiddish Will Survive,
Dina Halperin Asserts
In Shaarey Zedek Talk
Dina Halperin, world famous
Yiddish actress, in an address
preceding her recital at the
Shaarey Zedek Tuesday eve-
ning, expressed confidence that
Yiddish and the Yiddish Thea-
ter will survive.
Miss Halperin, who appeared
under auspices of the Shaarey
Zedek Men's Club, gave an in-
teresting resume of the develop-
ment of the Yiddish theater and
told of her own part in it since
the age of seven. She described
her flight from the 'Nazis and
expressed gratitude that she was
able to find haven in this great
democracy.
Her repertoire included se-
lections from some of the out-
standing Jewish writers—Bialik,
Sholem Aleichem, and others.
For more than an hour she act-
ed the various roles and gave
an excellent portrayal of Jewish
characters. The overflow audi-
ence acclaimed her interpreta-
tions and voted her program one
of the best heard in Shaarey
Zedek Men's Club series in a
number of years.
Miss Halperin's uncle, Harry
M. Shulman, introduced her.
There were brief talks by Abe
Satovsky, president of the club.
and Dr. Albert J. Altman, chair-
man of the program committee.
