Miss Judith Mayer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Krolik of
Chicago Blvd., has returned to Colby College, in Waterville, Me.,
to resume her studies.
Mrs. Herman Finsterwald and her daughter, Mrs. Clement
Hopp of Longfellow Ave., have returned from a few days' visit at
the Waldorf Hotel in New York City, where they went to attend
the wedding of Jeanne Dinsmore of that city to Jed Dreifus, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dreifus, of Memphis, Tenn.
Miss Mary Brown, daughter of Mrs. Sally Brown of the Lee
_ Crest, has returned to. Simmons College in Boston.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sampliner and daughter, Jane, of the
Belcrest Hotel returned recently frorrpta western motor trip through
Yellowstone Park and Salt Lake City to Los Angeles and San Fran-
cisco, Calif.
David Kreger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herschel V. Kreger of Rose-
lawn Ave., has left for Oberlin College to resume his studies.
Miss Arlene Davidson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry David-
son of Stratford Road, has returned from a 10-day visit in New
York City.
Dr. and Mrs. Louis Denison of Wildemere Ave. returned re-
cently from a fortnight's visit in Los Angeles, Calif., While there
they were guests at the Ambassador Hotel.
Miss Rita Alper, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Louis Alper of Pem-
broke Road, has returned from a two-weeks' visit in Springfield
and Boston, Mass.
Miss Ruth Brothman of Miami Beach, Fla., former Detroiter,
spent the Holy Day season with her sister and brother-in-law,
the Samuel Weismans of Collingwood Ave. Before returning to
Florida she plans to visit in Montreal and New York.
Stewart Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Green of Oak
Drive, has returned to Boston, where he attends Harvard Law
School.
Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer Meyer of Suffolk Drive are spending
the week in New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mansell of New Rochelle, N. Y., were week-
end guests in Detroit of Dr. Willard D. Mayer of W. Boston Blvd.
Mrs. Rose Edelman, her son, Herbert, and daughter, Sandra,
have moved from their Collingwood Ave. home to 14011 Santa
Rosa.
Miss Donna Lemberg', of Pasadena Ave.; has returned home
after spending the summer as a counselor at Camp Eagle Point
in Rumney, N. H. After spending two weeks at home with her
parents, she left for Michigan State College to continue her
studies.
Dr. and Mrs. Emil Isberg ofAnn Arbor and Miami Beach spent
a few days in Detroit recently, visiting family and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Stoller with their sons, Fred and Marvin,
formerly of Burlingame Ave., have moved to their new home in

The entire Jewish community of
South Africa was thrown into
gloom and mourning over the
death of Field Marshal Jan
Christian Smuts, former Prize
Minister of the Union, long-time
friend of the Jews and outspok-
en proponent of Zionism.
Chief Rabbi A. Rabinowitz
cancelled the customary High
Holiday sermon in -the Great
Synagogue of Johannesburg and
preached instead a memorial for
Marshal Smuts. At Temple Sha-
lom, Rabbi M. C. Weiler, leader
of Reform Judaism in South
Africa, also preached a memorial
service for the Marshal,
(Joseph Sprinzak, Israel Act-
ing President, and Foreign Min-
ister Moshe Sharett cabled mes-
sages of condolence to the
Smuts family and to the govern-
ment .and people of South Afri-
ca. In London the Board of Dep-
uties of British Jews cabled its
condolences to Mrs. Smuts).
