EVERTIME WE GO to Chi-
cago we literally "eat ourselves
to death" what with all that
good food ol' Chi has to offer
. .. And last week, with cous-
ins, Elmer and Hilda Raskin, we
did just about that . . Only
thing missing from our trip was
that the Detroit Tigers weren't
in town to listen to some very
fervent rooting . . . As it was,
they were doing well enough
without us.
SATURDAY NIGHT is Chez
Paree night for club-going Chi-
cagoans . . . who weren't alone
in their applause for the fun-
gathering Jackie Miles . . An
entourage from Detroit for Clive
Cantor's wedding at the Drake
Hotel, the next night, included
Sid and Muriel Singer, Phil Al-
per and his bride-to-be, Eleanor
Bond, Bernie and Phylis Marks,
Seymour and Rita Dunitz, Sy
and Elaine Seltzer and Herman
Shurgol.
T
vanni's is a meeting place for
celebrities, Sherwood will be a
busy boy with the interviews.

THE WINDSOR JEWISH
Youth Council and local BBYO
should have gotten together on
the dates for their respective
Yom Kippur Dances . . . both
scheduled for the night of Sept.
21 . . The affair in Windsor,
sponsored by the Junior Hadas-
sah of that city, will be held in
the Shaar Hashoma yim Syna-
gogue, corner Giles Blvd. and
Goyeau St. . . . There is defi-
nitely no need for same dates
being used by organizations .. .
The many campaigns to abolish
this sort of thing is strictly in
the interests of the parties in-
volved.

CHILDREN'S DEPT. . . . No-
ticing that little Joan was strug-
gling with an ear of corn, her
mother, Mrs. Harold Wisper,
offered to cut off the kernels
. . . but was quickly rebuffed
when the youngster replied, "No,
I like it on the bone!"

JACKIE KANNON, appearing
at Club Gay Haven, deserves a
big hand for his conscientious
efforts to clear up criticism di-
rected toward his so-called
"ridicule" of our ipeople by some
of the jokes he tells .. . Jackie
has never ignored the fact that
he is Jewish \. . . "98 per cent of
the people who see me perform
know that I am Jewish," says'
the fast-rising comedian, "and
I'm pround to be one!"
JACKIE LUNCHED with Wal-
ter Klein, assistant director of
the Je sh Community Council,
Julius Weinberg, internal rela-
tions director, and this writer,
to discuss the topic . .. It is a
credit to his intelligence that
Jackie wanted to meet and
thrash out whatever controversy
has arisen over the type of ma-
terial he uses . . . His consci-
entiousness in the matter has
long ago resulted in his discard-
ing of several jokes and quips
which he himself felt were in-
jurious from a ridiculing stand-
point, to the Jewish people.

Plans for Mizrachi Village in Israel
Will Be Discussed Saturday Night
The first Mizrachi 5711 meet-
ing will take place Saturday eve-
ning, at the Young Israel Cen-
ter, Dexter at Fullerton. Rabbi
Isaac Stollman and Zvi Tomke-
vich will discuss their recent
tour of Israel.
A detailed report will be pre-
sented of plans for a Mizrachi
village, to be established on land
obtained from the Jewish Na-

The Jewish National Fund re-
cently allocated 10,000 dunams
of land in the so-called Bashit
area, which is a 40 minute bus
ride from Tel-Aviv, where five
agricultural settle ments are
planned around an industrial
