Hadassah Groups
Open Season

Mrs. Gerald Goodman of De-
troit was elected national chan-
cellor of Iota Alpha Pi sorority
at its biannual convention here.
Mrs. Goodman is an active
member and former president
of the Detroit alumni of IAPI
and served as general chairitan
for the convention.
Others named to national of-
fices include Mrs. J. George Mil-
stein of Brooklyn and Mrs. Ed-
win Liss of Philadelphia, vice
chancellors; Mrs. Leonard
Mason of Detroit, correspond-
ing secretary; Evelyn. Oshansky
of Long Island, recording secre-
tary, and Mrs. Joseph Dvorin of
Detroit, bursar.
The Detroit meetings were
concluded with an installation
dinner at the Whittier Hotel, at
which the new officers took over
their positions. New members
of Nu chapter of the sorority, at
Wayne University, were in-
stalled by Mrs. Tessie Weissman
of Chicago, retiring chancellor,
Mrs. Goodman, and Joyce R.
Kaplan, chancellor of Nu chap-
ter.

Registration-for classes at the
Midrasha, College of Jewish
Studies, of United Hebrew
Schools, • will continue through
Oct. 9, according to the Mid-
rasha student council.
The school, designed to meet
the needs of Jewish youth of
high school and college age in-
terested in studies centered
about the Hebrew language, is
under the direction of Albert
Elazar. Classes will meet at the
Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg. Monday
and Wednesday nights, 7:30 to
10 p.m., beginning Oct. 9.
Sunday, Sept. 17 will be de-
voted to a Yom Peula, activity
day, jointly sponsored by the
Midrasha and Habonim at the
Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg. Sports,
choir, arts and crafts, dancing
and dramatics are planned. All
activities will be conducted in
Hebrew. -
The curriculum in the teach-
ers' training and advanced de-
partment are: Bible, psalms,
Talmud, grammar, modern He-
brew literature, Yiddish litera-
ture, and psychology. In the de-
partment of general Jewish
studies, which is open to the en-

National Sorority

Monday and Tuesday mark
the season's opening meetings
for Detroit's 10 Hadassah groups.
On Monday, the .women of
Central East will be entertained
by a selection of Israel folk
dances. Guest of honor will b ►
Chapter president, Mrs. Theo-
dore Bargman, who will report
on the Hadassah convention:
Mrs. Henry Turkel, 650 Boston
Blvd., will be hostess.
All other groups will meet
Tuesday at 12:30.
Central West, meeting at Bnai
Moshe, will have introduction Of
officers, a luncheon, and a De-
troit premier of the movie, "Look
into the Future."
Russell 'Woods East members
will hear an address by Mrs.
J. H. Erlich on "The Spirit of
Holy Day," at the Halevy Music
Center. Russell Woods West
will see colored slides. of Israel,
with Israeli music. The meeting
will be at the Young Israel
Center.
Sherwood Group will gather
at the home of Mrs. Charles
Gershenson, 10482 Suffolk. Four
different topics will be present-
ed by four members typifing
subjects that might be discussed
in a study group.
University West is featuring
a skit, "The Jeweled Thread,"
at the Northwest Synagogue.
The home of Mrs.. Alfred Kay,
19013 Wildemere, will be dec-
orated for a Sukkot garden party
for the University East group.
Mrs. Harry Oberstein will dis-
cuss Meyer Levin's new book,
"In Search," with Mrs. Charles
Briskman, Mrs. Irving Goldman
and Mrs. Robert Greenberg.
Carmel Hebrew School will
house the Bagley Group. Na-
omi Ruth will interpret a Bibli-
cal scene through the dance,
and give a monologue on Israeli
,folk dances. Wyoming members
will feature a play. "A Trip
Through Israel," followed by a
study group discussion. Their
group will meet in Carpenter's
Hail.
Southern Oakland County
members are presenting "A
MusiCal Preview of a Year in
Hadassah," at the Lutheran
Church.
