JERUSALEM, (ISI)-New in-
vestments in Israel this year
may amount to $280,000,000, an

-

estimate based in the IL.50,000,-
000 total invested from January
to June; 1950. In 1949, new in-
vestments totalled IL.76,000,000.
An increase of 37 percent over
1949 is envisaged for industrial
production, with the estimated
value for the current year at
IL.180,000,000. This is based on
imports of raw material, ex-.
penditure of wages and con-
sumption of electric current.
An increase is also evident in
the number of persons gainfully
employed, from 280,000 at the
beginning of 1948 to 425,000 in
June 1950. .
Establishment and essential
enlargement of 135 enterprises
was approved by the Govern-
ment Investment Center in the
first four months after the law
for the encouragement of capi-
tal investment came into force.
These were Mostly new indus-
trial enterprises and the total
capital investment involved
amounted to approximately
IL. 13,700,000.
Another. 36 industrial invest-
ments totalling IL.800,000 were
encouraged by recommendations
of the Center regarding licenses
and various other benefits.
These investments were nr
eligible for full approval ac-
cording to the definitions of the
new law.
Capital transfers from abroad
=largely by foreign residents
and partly by immigrants
came to approximately IL.6,500,-
000, 'ef an aggregate total of
about IL.15,500,000 in capital in-
vestments either approved or
recommended by the Invest-
ment Center. Nearly IL.1,500,000
are being placed at the disposal
of new investors from moneys
of. the American Import-Export
Bank loan, and the balance or-
iginates from local. sources.
The largest part of these in-
vestments represents new enter-
prises which either started pro-
duction during the last few
months or which are now under
construction. In many cases, im-
port of raw materials 'for the
first stages of operations is se-
cured by the investors them-
selves without dependence upon
foreign currency allocation or
conditioned by export proceeds
of the enterprise.

.

BENJAMIN G. BROWDY, president of the Zionist Or-
ganization of America, at the White House in his second
meeting with PRESIDENT TRUMAN. In the center is REP.
ABRAHAM J•. MULTER of New York.
Browder, in behalf of the ZOA, presented 'President Tru-
man with a silver plaque as an award "in grateful recognition
and heartfelt appreciation of his invaluable contribution to hu-
man welfare, his never-to-e-forgotten part in founding the
State of Israel, by all of which he has earned for himself the
title of "The First Citizen of the World."

Ernest Bloch's `Avodath Hakodesh'
An Enchanting Set of Recordings

A most •remarkable set of rec-
ords in 12 sides, produced in
London, England, and now avail-
able in this country, offers to
the public a complete religious
service, in the Reform ritual,
incorporating powerful spiritual
hymns.
These London full frequency
range recordings of "Sacred
Service" ("Avodath Hakodesh")
by Ernest Bloch were conducted
by the composer himself.
Featuring Marko Rothmuller,
Bass Baritone; Dorothy Bond;
soprano,. and Doris Cowan, con-
tralto, with the London Phil-
harmonic Choir, this Service
provides a full hour's enchant
ing- spiritual. entertainment.
The choir is markedly effec-
tive under the direction of
Chorusmaster Frederick Jack-
son. Ernest Bloch personally
conducted the London Philhar-
monic Orchestra whose music
provides rich background for
this powerful religious composi-
tion.
Opening up with the Mah
Tovu, "Sacred Service" continues
with Borechu, the Shema, Ve-
hoavto, Mi Chomocho and Tsur
Israel. The orchestral "Medi-
tation" in the first portion of
the service lends great dignity
and spiritual value to this work.
The "Kodosh; Kodosh" and
the silent devotion that follbw
retain the power of the intrci-
ductory record.
"Seu Sheorim," the taking of
the Scroll from the Ark - and its
return, "Hodo 'al Eretz," "Toras
Adonai" and "Etz Chaim" con-
tinue the tempo of this work.

Egypt Put Palestine
Arabs on UN Agenda

LAKE SUCCESS (JTA) -Egypt

again in December, 1949, "gave

tion due to those not desiring to

Noting that the UN Palestine
Conciliation CommisSion had not
