National Youth Delegates Encourage 16—THE

Respect for Basic Jewish Traditions

. NARROWSBURG, N. Y., (JTA)
--The early convening of a
"Tan-American Jewish Youth
Conference" was proposed at
the annual assembly of the Na-
tional Jewish Youth Conference
by Arnulf M. Pins, chairman of
the conference, which is spon-
sored by the National Jewish
Welfare Board.
The National Jewish Youth
Conference, a permanent body
representing 300 local Jewish
youth and young adult councils,
Pins declared, "should provide
the basis for a world Jewish
youth conference." The 200 del-
egates from 63 . communities in
20 states heard Pins recommend
that U. S. Jewish youth map
plans for participation in the
300th anniversary of the Ameri-
can Jewish community, which
will be observed in 1954.
After discussing such issues
as the need for a vital Jewish
youth movement, current scenes
in American Jewish life, back-
grounds . of Jewish communal
and cultural organizations, and
the four major alternative ap-
proaches to a creative Jewish
survival, the 156 delegates from
63 communities in 20 states
adopted resolutions calling upon
all local and regional, Jewish
youth and young adult councils
and national Jewish youth or-
ganizations to act on the prin-
ciple of a "respect for observ-
ance of basic Jewish traditions"
in all their public undertakings
involving Sabbath, holiday or
kashrut observance and to de-
velop programs that will guide
and encourage the "introduction
and practice of Jewish customs
and tradition in the Jewish
home."
Other proposals outlined at
the sessions called for exchange
visits between American and
Israel youths, scholarships for
U. S. Jewish youths seeking to
study and work in Israel, and
establishment of closer relation-
ships among youth groups the
world over. Earlier, the assem-
